The 5 For 5
It’s week 12 and that means that you have 2 maybe 3 weeks before your league begins playoffs. Some leagues will start in week 14 with 3 weeks of elimination games and no week 17 battles. So the next two weeks become more and more important if your on the edge of making the top 4, 6, or 8 in your league.
So after all that, here are your week 12 5 for 5. The best 5 to start and the worst 5 to sit.
5 to Sit:
5 - Brian Westbrook - RB - Philly. If you have him, you may want to hope you have another option. Westbrook missed practice for consecutive days and may not practice on Friday as well. With the team playing the Baltimore Ravens who were beaten down last week by the Giants, it may be a good idea to let BW rest both for the Eagles and for your team.
4 - Maurice Jones-Drew - RB - Jacksonville. Drew faces a formidable opponent with the Vikings and their very stout defensive front. The Jaguars have struggled on offense almost all year and Drew has been a monumental dissappointment this season. To his credit however, Drew has been running behind a make-shift offensive line.
3 - Ronnie Brown - RB - Miami: If you have to start him, then do so, but the Patriots are looking for revenge after the huge game that Brown had on them in week 3. The Dolphins will not have the same success with the wildcard package as they did then and that means that Brown will not likely have a good game either.
2 - Michael Turner - RB - Atlanta. Seems to be a running back theme here, but sticking with it once more Turner will have a hard time running agains the Carolina Panthers defense. The Panthers can be hot and cold but they still usually protect well against the run.
1 - Brett Favre - QB - NY Jets. Favre is either going to have a great game or he will have a horrible one. I tend to believe that he will not have a good game. While I think the Jets could win, a defensive battle should keep the score low. Favre tends to take too many risks and the Titans should be putting plenty of pressure on him this week. If you can, you may want to keep him on the bench.
Top 5 to Start:
5: Matt Forte - RB - Chicago. The Bears are facing the St. Louis Rams who have one of the worst run defenses in the league. Forte will be a focus of their defense but that should allow the Bears offense to move the ball through the air. Forte could be a good bet to get the ball on the goal line where the Bears should be often.
4: Jay Cutler - QB - Denver. Cutler is facing the Oakland Raiders who no longer have the solid secondary that they did earlier. With the departure of DeAngelo Hall, Cutler should find an open receiver…Eddie Royal…often. He would be a must start in almost all leagues.
3: Brandon Jackson - RB - NYG. Jackson had a great game against the Ravens a week ago and now faces a lesser defense in Arizona. The Giants will do what they can to keep Kurt Warner and Co. off the field so Jackson should have a prominent roll in the game.
2: DeAngelo Williams - RB - Carolina. The Atlanta Falcons are 6-4, a surprising 6-4. Matt Ryan has looked very solid and Michael Turner has been nothing short of solid. Still, they have little defense and they are one of the worst teams against the run. That looks good to one of the NFL’s leading rushers. Williams should have a very good game against this defense.
1: Ladanian Tomlinson - RB - SD. Tomlinson has been a very poor play this season, far from the value of a number 1 pick which was the case in about 98% of drafted leagues. Tomlinson should however find the lanes in this game as Indy has struggled against the run. Look for Tomlinson to have one of his best games of the season.
