Here are some news and notes going into this weekend’s play around the NBA.
- Stephon Marbury to the Celtics? I know it sounds loopy now, but to be reunited with his former teammate, KG could boost his stats a bit. For one, he would actually be playing. Number Two, he is actually excited about basketball. Man alive this could be a solid pickup, if the Knicks and Marbury can work out a buyout.
- Zydrunas Ilgauskas will miss up to a month of action with a fractured ankle. Ilgauskas is the Cav’s third leading scorer, and is a key component on the glass for Cleveland. What is an issue is Z’s foot injury history. He missed two years earlier in his career with a foot injury.
- Jose Caledron left action early yesterday with a strained hamstring. When he tried to return later in the second half, Caledron barely lasted in action, and called onto the bench for a subsistution. This could be a big blow for some unlike fantasy owners. Caledron dishes, scores, and rebounds pretty well all around.
The Weekend Watch:
(Players to watch this weekend)
Rodney Stucky, Pistons- Stucky is owned in 62 percent of leagues (ESPN) but he has been a man possessed as of late. Stuckey had 38 points last night, and could continue to spark interest, as Piston’s head coach Mike Curry is contimplating using either Rip Hamilton or Allen Iverson as a sixth man. The Pistons are playing well, despite major injury througout their roster. Stucky could see a significant rise in playing time, which could be a big benefit to his owners.
Jared Jefferies, Knicks- Ok, so he has only 5.5 points a game and four rebounds. But Mr. Jefferies has started at center the last two days. It seems that the Knicks like having Al Harrington off the bench, so though his numbers wont be great, they could be pretty respectable in spurts. Be cautious though.
Delonte West, Cavs- As noted above, Big Z will be missing somwhere close to a month of action. Already, West is an assists machine, and he is on fire as of late, averaging close to 18 points a game.
Luke Ridnour, Bucks- Ridnour came close to a triple double on Wednesday, and is starting to pick up his game. Luke averaged 6.9 assists in December.
