It’s the weekend baby! Coming up tomorrow is Fantasy CPR Live- We will talk a lot about the Jay Cutler deal, as well as NFL Off-Season, plus we will hit on opening day match ups and some outfielders to target. We will post the show notes up in a little bit, but right now, let’s get to the Full Court Press.
MLB:
Tiger Tales- A lot of news surround former and Current Detroit Tigers today. According to Newsday, the Mets are really close to signing former Tiger Gary Sheffield. Sheffield would most likely platoon with Ryan Church and sneak in some at bats if the young Daniel Murphy struggles to start the season. This is a good signing for the Mets, and the best situation for fantasy owners. I believe the Mets will give him ample opportunity to succeed. Especially with Ryan Church’s injury history.
Alongside Sheffield, current Tigers pitcher Nate Robertson doesn’t believe he belongs in the Bullpen. Robertson, who was beat out by top 100 prospect Rick Porcello also stated that sometimes it is time for players to move on. Does Robertson have any value? Not really considering he can’t get his fastball up past 90 MPH. He has had a horrible spring, and his contract would be hard to move. If Robertson accepts his bullpen role, he could become a pretty valuable lefty in deep deep, did I say deep? Al only leagues.
Mauer Update- According to MLB.com, Joe Mauer hit off a tee today and is starting to feel healthy yet again. Later in the week, Mauer plans on catching a bullpen session, but won’t start running anytime soon. The best part of this story is that Joe Mauer told manager Ron Gardenhire that he is feeling great. A good note for those who took a chance on him.
UPDATE( 2:10 PM): Ichiro will miss the first eight games of the season, due to an ulcer. He has been placed on the 15-day D.L.
Ichiro has missed the last three games due to fatigue. Though he was in the WBC and played every game, but this is something to watch. Any time you see this, you have to be a little cautious. He has not been in the lineup for the last three games.
The Combine-
Holy Cow, what is up with all of these positive tests spinning back to the combine? Percy Harvin, B.J. Raji, and Vontae Davis have all tested positive for Marijuana(props to NFL Draft Bible for breaking this story). Clay Matthews and teammate Brian Cushing have tested positive for steroids. Think about it though, Warren Sapp failed a drug test. It will be interesting to see how this effects value. For Matthews, you would think this would hurt the most, considering he was once a walk on. Check this Brian Cushing photo out. Holy Jesus.
Kellen Clemens told reporters that he feels he is a good option to start the season at quarterback. With Jay Cutler now gone to the Bears, his chances increase going into the season as the starter. At least until the NFL Draft hits.
A pretty quiet Friday fantasy wise. Coming up later today, I’ll post the tentative schedule for Fantasy CPR Live this Saturday. Stay Tuned.
