Happy Tuesday! So much to get to. We got a wide open afternoon, with baseball not getting underway until 5 PM ET, with the White Sox taking on Seattle in double header action. Fantasy Football is right around the corner as well, and we will get you prepared for that in the upcoming weeks. Coming up, we will talk to Ben Standig of FFtoolbox about NFL Draftee Knowshon Moreno. We will be rolling out the rankings as well in the future, as well as starting a new feature that you will enjoy (more on that later).
One thing I would like to note this wonderful tuesday is the correlation between fantasy sports and college. (Throw me a bone, I’m Graduating on Saturday). As I have gotten older (and hopefully wiser), I have noticed that I have taken an approach to life similar to that in fantasy sports. Everyday it is important to make the right moves, and watch what is going on around you. You make friends and competitive colleagues along the way. You begin to realize that sometimes there are more important things than what you are focused on, but when it is all said and done, you love it. It is almost in your blood.
It’s part of the DNA.
MLB:
Oliver Perez has one more shot- Thank you Jerry Manuel for stepping up and making my managerial decisions easier! According to Manuel, Saturday is make or break for the rich lefty. If video games translated to fantasy points, Perez would be the bomb diggity. In my current MLB 2k9 franchise, Perez struck out six and no hit through 7 in his last start. Statisticians have not found a way to correlate video game stats just yet, but Perez does have xbox like numbers against the Phillies, who he will face on Saturday. He had a .35 ERA against the Phillies last season in four starts. If you can get Perez for a very low price, why not give him a shot? Ok, maybe not quite yet. A look at his career numbers in July shows that Perez has had a less than 2 ERA the last two seasons.
Brad Lidge is Day-to-Day- The Phillies closer has some inflammation in his injury plagued knee. Ryan Madsen grabbed the save on Monday, and will most likely remain the closer until further notice. The Phillies seem pretty certain that Lidge won’t hit the D.L. but I would be concerned if I were an owner. Keep your eyes out on the waiver wire.
Fowler grabs five steals- Dexter Fowler played last night against the Padres and snagged five of the Rockies nine stolen bases. Chris Young was on the mound, meaning bases were practically given up. Seth Smith and Ian Stewart could see increased playing time as well in the upcoming days. Rockies outfielder Brad Hawpe could have suffered a concussion in last night’s action. I’m on the Stewart bandwagon, and you should be too.
Delgado Scratched- Carlos Delgado was scratched from the lineup after aggravating his hip sliding into third base last night. Fernando Tatis made the start for the Mets. This is pretty scary for owners who invested most of their power outside of first base and focused on Delgado. His history suggests that this could effect his swing. Remember 2007? A lot of his struggles came because of that hip.
The tale of Chris Young- Last night could be the start of a turnaround for the Arizona Center Fielder. Young went 2-5 and stole a few bases for the Diamond Backs. Meanwhile, the Padre starter could see the start of a slide. He got “rocked” by Colorado on Monday. Eight earned runs and seven hits, including a wonderful five walks over just three innings.
