Fantasy Sports Daily Rounds-December 10

There’s plenty of top notch sports action ahead this weekend even though the college football world is taking a week off (except for 1 important game, covered later). We’ve got some FCS football as well as some great college hoops and a little puck night as we switch to the NHL for our late picks in Streak for the Cash right after they jump…

Elsewhere in the sports world, the NBA transactions are flying as we get a bunch of guys on new teams and new situations headed into the new season. Even if the NBA can now just veto trades whenever it wants, there’s plenty of intrigue to all the roster machinations this time of year. Next week’ we’ll begin our formal fantasy NBA coverage. If you’d like to be a part of the NBA coverage team here at fantasyCPR just shoot me an email at [email protected] with a sample of your writing and “Contributor” in the subject line. We’re trying to get a top-notch starting 5 of our own going into the season and there are still spots available for the right kind of writer.

The focal point of the weekend though will once again be the NFL as they head into week 14 and the finishing kick to the playoffs. We posted our picks and previews for what to expect from a fantasy football matchup perspective for each game. Later this morning check back for the latest injury updates so that you can avoid the dreaded 0 in your playoffs. It’s a big sports weekend and we’ll be watching plenty of the action on fantasy CPR. You can also follow us on twitter our handle is simply @FantasyCPR…. Check back later for injury updates, and make sure to check out our Streak for the Cash picks right after the jump.

STREAK FOR THE CASH PICKS

It was a rough start to the day for me yesterday as I and 98.5% of streakers picked against the upset in the college soccer semi’s, but Cinderella Charlotte made it to the finals and UNC made it an in-state affair by beating UCLA later in the evening. Thankfully though, I rolled with the Oilers against the Avs for my late pick and the young team from Edmonton didn’t disappoint me allowing me to get today started with a W1 to build on with these picks:

12:00-Sam Houston State by double digits: In the FCS quarterfinal, I’ll take Sam Houston State to remain undefeated and take out Montana State easily. Montana St. has been struggling in their last 2 games, one a loss to Montana and one a 1 point win over New Hampshire. Sam Houston St.’s been on a roll all year and have won 10 of their 12 games (all W’s) by double digits. One of their close calls was an OT game early in the year at New Mexico and they won their last by just 7 over Stony Brook. It’s not a sure thing, but I’ll take my chances that SHS is ready to roll into the semi’s here over an overmatched Montana State team. I’ll take them to win by 10 or more with a confidence level (CL) of 2 1/2 out of 5.

5:05-Villanova over Temple: Villanova got me a win earlier this week even when they lost to Mizzou since they kept it close and shot the 3-ball well. Jay Wright’s team now against their in-city rival Temple. Temple’s start to the year has been less than great losing games to Bowling Green and Purdue. They don’t have any great wins either, and ‘Nova will be their toughest opponent so far. It’s a rivalry game, so it’s no sure thing, but I’m likin’ the boys from the Big East in this one with a CL: 3

8:45-Robert Griffin III-Griffin has been my choice since he wowed the world in his team’s smackdown of OU. I’ve been a RG3 fan since the TCU game. In the NFLmocks.com virtual heisman (which I got to vote on) he won easily. If I’m on a W1 or a losing streak I’ll try and sneak this one in, but if not I’ll sit it out since I only have a CL: 1 1/2.

10:00-Calgary Flames over Edmonton Oilers: Edmonton were my boys last night, but tonight they travel to Calgary who has just owned them recently (7 in a row, 9 in a row at home). Edmonton had been staggering before last night’s win, while the Flames are 5-1-1 and their power play if firing on all cylinder. I’ve got Calgary in this one with a CL: 3 to close out my Saturday night.
