Last night was highlighted by no lights in San Francisco, lobs in LA, and Japanese pitchers headed to Texas, where everything is bigger even their posting bids.
The Monday Night Football game was mostly a display of the 49ers defense as they shut down the Steelers and dominated Pittsburgh 20-3. Big Ben played, but hopefully not for your fantasy team. We’ll have the full rundown later on our Monday Night Football Recap, but let’s just say he had 4 turnovers and 0 touchdowns. The Niners D is good, whether it’s good enough to stop Drew Brees or Aaron Rodgers in the playoffs will be the question of the NFC.
In college hoops, Davidson celebrated Stephon Curry’s birthday by knocking off #11 Kansas and LSU handed #10 Marquette their first loss of the season. Other than those 2 upsets all the ranked teams won their matchups.
The true focus though of most hoops fans was on the Staples Center where the new-look Clippers took on the Lakers in a preseason extravaganza. Both teams looked far from rusty and will look to contend for top spots in the Western Conference playoffs. More on fantasy basketball later as we continue to look forward to the NBA season tip-off Sunday.
There’s plenty going on here at FantasyCPR today as we’ll have the Monday Night Recap coming your way at 9 this morning. At 10, I’ll tell you who the Texas Rangers landed to replace CJ Wilson in the weekly Hit-and-Run of fantasy baseball news. Later today we’ll continue our Bowl preview series with looks at the Belk Bowl and the Little Caesars Bowl which take place next Tuesday and then just before kickoff we’ll review our pick for tonight’s game the Beef ‘O’ Brady’s Bowl. STREAK FOR THE CASH PICKS
My 7 gamer went up in smoke-or ice actually-as the Kings snuck up on the Maple Leafs (and me) and won in a shootout. Thankfully, the Niners D helped me bounce back with the under in the second half so I start today on a W1. Here’s how I’m planning to build on that:
3:00-Bolton win or draw: This game is between the bottom 2 teams in the table and both Managers are in danger of losing their jobs if they don’t turn things around and get their teams out of the relegation zone. The reason I’m going Bolton is that Blackburn will be without it’s entire back line due to injury so Bolton should be able to score and I’m not sure that Blackburn will. I’ve only got a confidence level (CL) of 2 out of 5 since both teams have been horrible, but since I’ve only got a W1 I’ll go with it.
7:00-New Jersey Devils:The Devilsare on a roll, winning their last 4, and get to host the first meeting of these pair of rivals this year. The Rangers had last 4 of their last 6 before their last game, a dramatic win in Pheonix on Saturday. Jersey hasn’t played since Saturday either when they beat the Canadiens in Montreal. Since the Devils get this one at home and due to their recent form I’ll take them with a CL: 2 1/2.
10:05-University of Texas-Arlington to win or lose by less than 10: Of it’s 5 wins USU has only won 2 by double digits, but its biggest margin was in its last game against Seattle. Utah State is a bigger name to be sure, and that’s why streakers are going heavily that direction, but UTA is a solid team. In their 4 losses, only Texas and #10 Baylor have beat them by double digits-and Baylor just barely, since they won by 10. Arlington just lost to Tulsa by 5 in OT in their last road game, and continues the road trip up to Utah State up in Logan. I’ll take them with a CL: 2 and if I’m at W3 I’ll sit this one out, but don’t get trapped into the USU herd just since you recognize their name.
current streak: W1
record for the month: 29-12
