Fantasy Football-Monday Night Football Preview-Week 16

Update: Lance Moore is active, and Mark Ingram is out as expected.

Tonight’s Monday Night game gives us the last piece of our playoff puzzle headed into next week’s slate of games. We’ll have the full NFC scenario tomorrow here on CPR… It’s also the final game for lots of Fantasy Football Championships and many people are counting on guys to get them points. Will your boys bring home the goods? Here’s what I see happening tonight…

SAINTS -6.5 over Falcons

Analysis: Atlanta and New Orleans meet again after an OT win for the Saints in Atlanta week 10 in the controversial 4th and 1 game. The Saints and Falcons are both in position to make the playoffs but homefield and any shot of a first round bye are on the line. The Saints offense at home is absolutely unreal in the numbers they put up with Drew Brees at the helm. They are the #1 ranked passing offense in the league after last week’s showing and Brees is going to be trying to break Dan Marino’s record for most yards in a season. This is a big game for both teams, an both teams are very familiar with their opponent. It’s not smart to bet against Brees at home in the dome and with the crazy Saints fans out on Monday Night, I’ll take the Saints to win 41-30.

Player Notes: Neither team plays the best defense in the league to be sure so there’s a good chance that this will turn into a shootout. In their first meeting both Drew Brees and Matt Ryan threw for over 300 yards and 2 Tds. There’s not reason to think that they won’t get at least those numbers this time around as well. Brees is a no-brainer start, and Ryan should have a nice week as a mid-range QB1 against a Saints D ranked 28th against the pass. In the previous matchup both TE’s Tony Gonzalez and Jimmy Graham had a nice game and a TD and they both make solid TE1 plays this week with Graham having by far the most upside. The Saints were able to keep Roddy White in check last time, but he’s been on a tear lately getting tons of targets and converting them for catches, yards, and scores. Start him with confidence as a WR1 and his teammate Julio Jones as a midrange WR2. In the Saints receiver corps they spread it around, but look once again for Marques Colston to be his first option, but Lance Moore continues to be the Red Zone target among the WRs. The running back situation is unclear in New Orleans but settled in Atlanta with Michael Turner. Darren Sproles may have a good game, but I think it will come as a receiver. Most of the yards in this one will be passing yards and there will be plenty of points to go around. For those with championship games on the line it’s sure to be a wild and crazy Monday night with plenty of drama and action throughout as the teams pile on the points…
