Fantasy golf-Farmers Insurance Open picks updates

Torrey Pines North is the easier of the 2 courses in use this weekend, and it greatly affects my strategy as I explained in yesterday’s post. Now that the tee times are available, I’ve had to make only 2 changes so here are my updated picks:

Group A:

Charles Howell III: starts day on on the North course so he’ll officially be my start with Nick Watney coming in for round 2.

Group B:

Brandt Snedeker and D.A. Points start on Torrey South, so I’ll be going with Rickie Fowler and new addition Steve Marino in round one and Els and Points on Friday. Marino is a birdie monster who’s coming off a top 20 finish last week and is 3 for 5 making cuts at this event with 2 top 25s. He’s one of those golfers who everyone seems to think will break out at some point, and this week could be the one. He’s a part of my foursome and I’m pretty confident that someone from this group will end up on the Sunday Leaderboard.

Group C:

Ben Crane is by far the most sure thing in this group, so I’ll take him on Torey North on Thursday and then switch to new addition Jamie Lovemark for round 2. The just-turned-24-year-old Lovemark made the cut last week at the Humana and is somewhat of a “hometown” pick. He’s from Rancho Santa Fe and graduated from USC. He’s played this event 3 times since 2007 (2 years before he turned pro)  with his best finish being t39 while making the cut all 3 times. He’s definitely a deep-sleeper pick, but almost anyone from group C besides Crane is, and with Crane on the roster I can afford a little risk.
