As we come to the end of the month, it’s good to have a full board of options on a sports-filled Saturday. After yesterday’s tough beginning (thanks, Kevin Streelman), my 2 later picks of Iona and O-K-C came through so I start today with a W2 and this is what I’m planning on picking
12:05-Marquette Golden Eagles: The ranking means nothing and this is a road conference game so nothing will be easy for Marquette. They played ‘Nova earlier this year in Milwaukee and the Wildcats hung right with them. Recent form though is why I feel confident taking the Golden Eagles. They’ve won their last 5 including a tough road game at Providence. Earlier this year they lost close road games to Georgetown and Syracuse. Villanova has struggled at the start of Big East play going 3-6 so far in-conference. In their last game out they lost to Louisville at Louisville but have also shown they can be beat at The Pavillion (USF and Syracuse). It will be a close game, but I like Marquette to pull it out at the end of the day.
4:10-Georgetown: The Hoyas have an in-conference road game as well against Pitt. The Panthers are struggling this year both at home and on the road and Georgetown has so many different ways to attack you. I don’t think the Pitt defense can slow down Georgetown enough even though Trey Woodall has returned.
9:00-Memphis: The Grizz are in a brutal stretch and it has nothing to do with their atrocious throwbacks. They’ve played quite a bit on their current trip, but they did get last night off. The Suns meanwhile played at Portland last night and now head home to host the waiting Grizzlies in the second half of a back-to-back. Memphis is a good team when they’re all hitting their shots, and they’ll be hungry after losing the game late to the Clippers. I think they’ll be able to out “run and gun” the Suns and get me the Green.
Current streak: w2
