Streak for the Cash Picks-January 29

by Daily Rounds

After a Saturday with wall-to-wall hoops, today the variety returns to the board with golf, soccer, hockey, and even the NFL. The hesitation for me to take the puck or the Pro Bowl is that those games are exhibitions so they could go either way and the players and coaches aren’t necessarily playing to win the game. Mainly because it’s an exhibition first of all… So I’ll hit the hardwood with my streak today and go with these picks.

Yesterday was up and down, or actually up, down, up, and then down again. Like many streakers between the Lakers and Grizzlies losing last night, I’m on an L1 coming in to today and here’s what I’m looking to pick.

9:00-Chievo Verona:Home team getting the draw is usually a good way to start the day.

3:30-Miami Heat: The Heat host the Bulls in the ABC spotlight early game on our Sunday afternoon. It’s a great matchup with the Bulls at 17-4 rolling in to face the 14-5 Heat who are just now starting to get healthy and welcomed back Dwyane Wade in their last contest. The Bulls will still be without Luol Deng most likely in this one, and I think Miami will be ready to reassert themselves as the team to beat in the Eastern Conference. I’ll be honest: if I had a big streak, I’d pick elsewhere, but since this is a game I can’t wait to watch I want to have a pick in the game so I’ll go with the King and friends to defend his court and beat the Bulls in an Eastern Conference Finals preview.

7:00-Minnesota Timberwolves: The Wolves host the Lake-show in what will be my final pick of the night unless the Streak PTB’s add more late picks. This pick is probably tainted by the natural Laker-hate of my Boston roots, but the Wolves have been playing well at home, winning 3 of their last 4, and beat the Spurs on Friday in their last game. Their last 3 wins are over the Spurs, Mavs, and Clippers, so this is a team that can beat good teams. LA on the other hand, has struggled mightily on the road (1-7) and lost just last night in Milwaukee. The Lakers are 3-4 on the 2nd half of back-to-back’s but only 1 win and all 4 of those losses have come on the road. The Wolves are ready to make a statement and there’s no better way then to defend your home court against the Lakers and get back to .500. Look for Love, Rubio, and the Wolves to be ready to run against LA.

Current Streak: L1
