NBA Fantasy Basketball-Starting 5-February 6

by NBA

The NBA took it easy yesterday with the Super Bowl taking center stage, but there were 2 games as another exciting week came to a close. This week the NBA seeks to fill the void between the NFL and MLB seasons with a solid 57 games starting with 10 tonight with 11 Wednesday and a busy 12 on Friday. There’s lots to keep track of, so let FantasyCPR help each day by checking out our “Starting 5″ where we look at several lists of 5 that recap and wrap up the action of the previous day.

As you prepare to set your lineups for week 7, make sure to check out who to add and who could be affected by injuries.

Here’s how the 2 games went down last night in 2 quick and easy lists of 5.

5 stepping up

1. LeBron James-Mia: James led the heat past Toronto with a day-high 30 points to go with 9 boards, 2 assists, and a steal. The Heat move to 18-6 with the win and are within a game of the Bulls for the top slot in the Eastern Conference.

2. Kevin Garnett-Bos: Garnett has been playing much better of late and no Celtic is helped more by the return of Rajon Rondo thanks to the great chemistry the two have developed. Yesterday, KG had a game-high 24 points and added 9 rebounds, 2 assits, and a steal.

3. Dwyane Wade-Mia: Wade was the perfect running mate for King James on Sunday afternoon as he scored 25 points on 8-14 shooting and added 3 assists, 2 blocks, and 2 rebounds.

4. Paul Pierce-Bos: Pierce helped the C’s to their 4th win in a row and to an overall record of 13-10 yesterday as they beat Memphis in the Garden. He finished with 21 points, 6 assists, 6 boards, and a steal with a +/- of an impressive +28.

5. Rajon Rondo-Bos: Rondo may not have his shot back (2-6) but definitely can rack up the assists as he had 14 in his 35 minutes yesterday and added 5 points, 2 steals, and 5 rebounds.

5 falling down

1. Marc Gasol-Mem: Gasol struggled from the field, shooting just 3-14, and had 7 of the team’s 17 turnovers. His final stat line included 7 points, 6 rebounds, a block, and an assist.

2. Mike Conley-Mem: Conley had a poor night shooting as well connecting on just 2-8 from the field and none of his 3 3-point attempts. He finished with 4 points, 4 assists, 3 rebounds, and a steal. Memphis needs Mike and Marc to play way better than this if they expect to contend in the West.

3. Chris Bosh-Mia: The Heat rode Wade and LeBron past the Raptors despite the 3rd member of the big 3′s tough night. Bosh shot just 3-13 but still finished with 12 points thanks to a perfect 6-6 from the line while adding 8 boards, 4 assits, and 2 steals in the Miami win.

4. Leandro Barbosa-Tor: Barbosa came off the bench and couldn’t find his shot as he continues to struggle since his ankle injury. He made just 1-8 and finished with 2 points and 3 assists. He had a good game Friday against Washington, but you can probably do better than Barbosa for the coming week in your lineup.

5. James Johnson-Tor: While some have been touting him as a Raptor to go get Johnson struggled yesterday and finished with just 18 minutes played, 4 points, 4 assits, and 5 rebounds. He’s unpredictable, and it’s hard to recommend many players on this Raptor team which struggles mightily while the await the return of Andrea Bargnani (which doesn’t appear to be close.)
