NBA Injury Ward-Fantasy Basketball update February 6

by NBA

As the NBA season continues in it’s compressed form, injuries continue to be a main theme of the year. In Fantasy Basketball, injuries can make or break your team not only by subtracting important players, but also by creating opportunities for other players to step up. If you want to know who I think is stepping up this week, click that link. Here’s the latest on those struggling with injury as we head into week 7.

Derrick Rose is not expected to miss time this week, but he continues to battle his back injury. Mandatory Credit: Mike DiNovo-US PRESSWIRE

Derrick Rose-Chi: Rose is still being bothered by a bad back and was limited in Sunday’s practice but says he’ll be ready to go for tonight’s game against the Nets.

Stephen Curry-GS: Curry took a knee to the groin (ouch) but finished Saturday’s game and is considered day-to-day going forward. He’s not expected to miss any time this week.

Jarrett Jack-NO: Jack missed the Hornets last 2 games with what is supposedly a minor knee injury. His status has a huge impact on fantasy hoops since he was having a great year and his replacement, Greivis Vasquez, has excelled in his expanded roll while Jack is out. It appears to be a truly “day-to-day” situation for Jack and his owners should feel ok starting him this week even though the Hornets only have 3 games so the risk is high.

Spencer Hawes-Phi: In case you missed it, he’s back and should be added in almost all formats

Manu Ginobili-SA: Ginobili is targeting a return in a few weeks and has been medically cleared to resume limited basketball activity.

Andrea Bargnani-Tor: Still out indefinitely with his calf injury.

Brandon Knight-Det: Knight’s nose was broken early in the Pistons last game, but he is expected to be ready for Detroit’s first game this week on Wednesday.

Raymond Felton-Por: Felton has a sprained foot and is 50-50 to play tonight against the visiting Thunder.

Jared Dudley-Phx: Dudley would make a great pickup this week if he wasn’t injured. He’s regained his starting role in Phoenix but missed Saturday’s game with a thigh injury and is day-t0-day coming into this week.

Elton Brand-Phi:Brand sprained his thumb Friday, missed Saturday’s game, and is considered day-to-day coming in to this week.

Gerald Henderson-Cha: Henderson is out for at least a couple weeks after injuring his hamstring. His replacement at least short-term appears to be Reggie Williams.

Richard Hamilton-Chi: Hamilton has missed 4 in a row with a thigh/groin injury and is considered day-to-day headed into this week. You can probably do better than starting Rip this week.

Jameer Nelson-Orl: Nelson could return as early as Monday from his concussion that kept him sidelined this past week.

D.J. Augustin-Cha: There’s no schedule yet for Augustin’s return from a toe injury.

George Hill-Ind: Hill will be out for the next couple of weeks with an ankle injury.

Tony Allen-Mem: He was a late scratch yesterday for the Grizz and is day-to-day headed into this week with hip and knee injuries.

MarShon Brooks-NJ: Brooks remains in a boot and won’t even begin shooting until the middle of the week. He probably won’t return until the end of this week or beginning of next with his role TBD based on Anthony Morrow’s recent strong play.

Carl Landry-NO: Landry has a sprained MCL and will miss the next few weeks.

On January 7, Baron Davis warms up before the game. When will he return and what does it mean for Jeremy Lin?Mandatory Credit: Tim Fuller-US PRESSWIRE

Baron Davis-NY: Davis could come back sometime this week, but will most likely return next week. His return may affect the value of recent hot pick-up Jeremy Lin.

Darko Milicic-Min: Milicic continues to deal with a thigh contusion but the emergence of Nikola Pekovic may allow the Wolves to bring him along slowly.

Timofey Mozgov-Den:Mozgov’s ankle injury kept him out of the last Nugg’s game Saturday where his fill-in Kosta Koufos had a great game in his absence. The Power Forward/Center spot in Denver will be an interesting one to see unfold since Mozgov’s contributions as “starter” had been fairly insignificant so far this year.

Brook Lopez-NJ: Lopez rehab is under way and he could be back in the next few weeks. He’s widely available so if you can afford the roster space you may want to add him soon.

Mehmet Okur-NJ: Okur remains day-to-day with his back issues.

Tristan Thompson-Cle: Thompson’s ankle injury kept him out of action Saturday, but he should be be ready at some point this week.

Nate Robinson-GS: Robinson played well before getting injured Saturday. He’s considered day-to-day heading into the week, but shouldn’t miss any games. He’s still not starting, and as long as he’s the 3rd guard on the Warriors behind Stephen Curry and Monta Ellis he won’t see enough time to make himself consistently fantasy relevant.

Jason Kidd-Dal:Kidd appears to be nearing a return and could be back as early as Wednesday against the Nuggets.

Brandon Bass-Bos: Day-to-day but expects to play Tuesday.

Ekpe Udoh-GS: Udoh left Saturday’s game with a wrist injury. He’s day-to-day and should be avoided since the reward for taking the risk is fairly low.

Jason Collins-Atl: Collins is out for a couple weeks which will only increase Ivan Johnson’s role in the Hawks rotation.
