Valentine’s Day is filled with hoops and hockey after some early UEFA soccer gets things kicked off on this Tuesday. Yesterday, my picks did pretty well getting me to a W3 since ‘Cuse and KU avoided upset and I guessed the soccer prop right as well. With a W3, I’m skipping soccer this afternoon, but here’s what I would pick as well as my picks for the rest of the day:
2:45-Barcelona wins by 2+: This is the Champions league so nothing is a gimme and Barca hasn’t been tearing things up on the road. Bayer Leverkusen is currently 6th in the Bundesliga but will be short-handed on offense for this matchup. I’m not sure they can score and I do think a mostly healthy Barcelona gets 2 and wins 2-0. I’m not super-confident with this pick, but I’d go with this one if I needed a soccer pick.

7:00-Texas A&M: Texas Tech was 0-11 in big 12 play until they got their first win in conference in their last game over Oklahoma 65-47. The Red Raiders haven’t played an easy schedule to be sure, but they’ve lost at home to unranked Iowa State by 24, unranked Oklahoma State by 17, and then-#24 K-State by 22. A&M has also struggled in big 12 play with wins over only Texas Tech, Oklahoma, and Oklahoma State. They have yet to win a conference road game, but tI think that they’ll get their first in Lubbock although they’ve struggled mightily this year.
10:30-LA Lakers: I’m going to bypass the Buckeyes since they’ve struggled their last 2 games and instead head for the Staples center where the Lakers host Atlanta. LA will be glad to be home after their Grammy road trip and the Hawks have been reduced to a 2-man show of Joe Johnson and Josh Smith. What the Hawks lack is size inside which is where the Lakers should be able to capitalize with Pau Gasol and Andrew Bynum. The only way I can see the Hawks hangin’ with the Lakers is if Kobe goes shot happy and is off which doesn’t happen offen at home. I think the Lakers are a pretty safe pick here since they’ve been great at home even though it may not feel much like home after being gone so long.
