The Knicks were dealt what some are calling a deathblow to their depressing, then promising, then depressing, then promising again season. The Knicks discovery of Jeremy Lin at PG has been the individual story of the year. While the Thunder, Bulls, and Heat have emerged as favorites for the championship, the Knicks were an intriguing team sitting on the edge of the playoffs with a new energy under Mike Woodson. The dream run through the Eastern Conference is done before it even started though as Lin is now expected to be out for the rest of the season.
The Knicks are in the 8th spot in the West with the Bucks in pursuit. They’re also still in the running for the Atlantic Division with Boston and Philly ahead but definitely not uncatchable. Now though, the Knicks will turn to Baron Davis as their starting point guard with Mike Bibby and Toney Douglas seeing increased time and roles off the bench.
Davis is currently available in over 80 percent of leagues and looks to get starters minutest he rest of the way. So far, it hasn’t translated to a large number of points, but the assists have been there. In his last 4 games he’s averaging over 5 assists per game and just under 9 points. If you’re in a deep league or are in dire need of assists, Davis is worth an addition.
The other fantasy consideration in the Knicks current makeover is Iman Shumpert. Shumpert has played 30+ minutes in the Knicks last 4 games and has scored in double-digits each time averaging over 17 points per game and contributing in steals, rebounds, and assists as well. He’s one of the best adds for the rest of the season if he continues to get this much playing time. Shumpert is available in 82.5 percent of leagues, but add him quickly if you need points and decent across-the-board contributions. The Knicks just play 3 games this week, but he still could pay-off before the season ends.
