Streak for the Cash Picks, April 8

Hopefully the matchups on today’s board turn out to be “Lucky 13″ for you. There’s early EPL, then plenty of baseball, Masters, and NBA throughout the afternoon. Everything wraps up tonight with the premiere of Sunday Night Baseball with the Rangers and White Sox.

Yesterday, was a rough one for my picks. I lost my last 3 with the Rockies, Cardinals, and Nuggets all going down. I’m hoping to get things turned back around with these picks:

Mar 12, 2012; Chicago, IL, USA; Chicago Bulls point guard Derrick Rose (1) dribbles the ball against the New York Knicks during the second half at the United Center. The Bulls defeat the Knicks 104-99. Mandatory Credit: Mike DiNovo-US PRESSWIRE

11:00-Arsenal win: People are flocking to the City getting the draw camp (83% right now) and I understand why, but I don’t think it’s the right pick. Arsenal was dreadful at the beginning of the year which is why they remain behind ManCity in the standings. However, the Gunners recent form has been great while Manchester is fading and struggling to win especially on the road.  City’s only won 2 times since November 5 while taking 4 losses in that same time period. They’ve only managed 3 goals in their last 7 road games. On the other side, Arsenal scores prolifically at home with 3, 2, 3, 5, 7 and 3 in their last 5 home matches. The Blues are a good team and they need the game, so it’s no sure thing, but I would take Arsenal for the win with the Confidence Meter-5 (out of 10).

1:00-Chicago Bulls: The Bulls have beaten the Knicks in 2 close games already this season and they’ll play today and Tuesday as both try to solidify their playoff standings. The Knicks are in a fight for the 8th seed with the chasing Milwaukee Bucks and have won 10 of their last 13 to hold onto that final position. If the playoffs started today, they’d face the top-seeded Bulls who lead Miami by 3 games. More importantly for the Bulls though is the return of Derrick Rose who has said he’s ready to go as the Bulls head to New York for the Sunday afternoon game-of-the-week. I think they’ll win even if D-Rose doesn’t go, but since he is expected to play I’ll go Chicago to win this one by about 10 points. Confidence Meter: 7

1:10-Atlanta Braves: While I wish I had the confidence to take my Red Sox avoiding the sweep in MoTown, I actually have much more confidence in Atlanta. The Braves have dropped the first 2 in the series to the Mets and now face the newly signed (for crazy money) Jonathon Niese. Mike Minor get the call for Atlanta who is still searching for their first win. The Braves offense has been unable to get things going yet being stymied by Johan Santana and R.A. Dickey and scoring just 2 runs total in the 2 games. Atlanta hasn’t lost 3 in a row to start the season since 2003 and the Mets haven’t started 3-0 since 2007 when they won their first 4. Niese has pitched well against Atlanta in the past, so I can only get a Confidence Meter: 4.5 on this one.

Apr. 6, 2012; Phoenix, AZ, USA; San Francisco Giants pitcher Matt Cain prior to the game against the Arizona Diamondbacks during opening day at Chase Field. The Diamondbacks defeated the Giants 5-4. Mandatory Credit: Mark J. Rebilas-US PRESSWIRE

4:10-San Francisco Giants: Matt Cain looks to be the stopper for San Francisco after the Giants have dropped their first 2 games in Arizona. I love the D-Backs (World Series predictions here), but I think the Giants will steal this one. Collmenter was knocked around in the Spring and hasn’t looked good, and Matt Cain has always pitched will at Chase Field. Confidence Meter-6

8:05-No Run scored in the 1st inning: Generally it’s always a safer bet that a run won’t be scored in a given inning (roughly 67-33 chances). Matt Harrison and Gavin Floyd are both solid starters, so I don’t think one will be scored here. However, a run has scored in the first inning in the first 2 games of this series, so it could easily go either way. Confidence meter: 2.5

Current Streak: L3

Overall Record for the month: 8-13

Picks with Confidence +5: 6-4
