On this Friday the 20th, Streak for the Cash has 18 picks for you to choose from. From the Valero Texas Open teeing things off at 9 this morning to a pair of West Coast baseball games wrapping things up for us starting just after 10 tonight, there’s plenty of picks to make and green to find.
Yesterday I only felt confident with the Braves and they cruised past the D-Backs to run my streak to 5. Here’s the matchups I like the most today with their current reading on my confidence meter (scale of 1-10 with 10 being the most confident).
2:20-Cincinnati Reds: The Reds offense is starting to click and Homer Bailey would love to have the run support after getting a single run in each of his first 2 starts which have ended in losses. The Cubs are 3-10 and have lost 5 in a row. Both teams have struggled early on this season, but I think the Reds are headed in a better direction right now. Confidence Meter-4
3:10-Boston Red Sox: It’s the Fenway 100th anniversary so the Sox will do all they can to get this one and hopefully get things turned back the right direction. They were just crushed by Texas, but they’re the best team in baseball right now. Before that they did take 3-4 from the Rays. Meanwhile, the Yankees played last night to close out their series with the Twins and will roll into Boston to take on their hated rivals. Rivalry games are always tough picks, especially when they’re early in the season. Confidence Meter: 3
7:10-New York Mets: The Mets are at home in this one and try to continue their solid start to the season. It really comes down to which starter you think will continue his good early season form. Jonathon Niese is 2-0 with a 2.13 ERA in his first 2 starts and Barry Zito is 1-0 with a 1.13 ERA. Of the two, I suspect Zito’s of being the fluke. Go with the home team and Niese to get the W here. Confidence Meter: 5
8:10-Milwaukee Brewers: The Rockies visit Miller Park to take on the Brew-crew. The Brewers will turn to Shaun Marcum to bounce back from their loss to LA yesterday afternoon. The Rockies have won their last 2, but I don’t think Jhoulys Chacin can match Marcum especially since his control has been sporadic this year. I think the Brewers have the advantage in their starter, their overall lineup, and they’re at home. I’ll take them with the confidence meter at 6.
10:05-Oakland A’s: The A’s have been playing well and just finished beating the struggling LA Angels in Anaheim. They’ll return home for the Tribe who have also been playing well. The main reason I’d go Oakland is that Ubaldo Jiminez will get the start for the Indians and he’s struggled lately. Confidence Meter: 3 (but I do think it’s the best late matchup)
Current Streak: W5
Overall Record for the month: 30-30
Picks with Confidence +5: 18-11
