Metta World Peace elbows James Harden-suspension likely

If you haven’t seen the video yet, it’s in our hub. Opinions are all over the map on this one. On twitter people were saying it was unintentional while others came just short of calling for criminal prosecution. The only opinion that really matters though is David Stern’s. In the next few days we’ll hear what this all will mean for both teams going forward.

I can’t see MWP or Harden playing in the regular season for sure, so in fantasy they’re instantly droppable as you finish out your regular season. More important will be their availability in the playoffs. Harden’s condition is unknown although he didn’t return to the game, so it doesn’t look good. Concussions are nothing to mess around with and the Thunder will be cautious despite their need of his bench presence. The chief concern of all involved is definitely the health of James Harden, and everyone will be hoping he makes a full and speedy recovery and can be a part of the Thunder’s playoff run.

How long will Metta World Peace be suspended?

As far as a suspension goes, what do you think is justified? ESPN’s sportsnation had an early poll up last night with some options: fine, 1 game, 2 game, 2+ games. It was overwhelming that there be no World Peace for more than 2 games (70% and the majority of every state). I think the better options are: all playoffs, first and second round, first round, or rest of regular season. Let me know your opinion at the bottom in the comments or vote in our poll at the bottom of the post.

Right now I’d say the rest of the regular season and the first round of the playoffs. I am OK with J.A. Adande’s +2 option (read it here) except for the precedent that it sets. What if LeBron James hurts a team’s 10th man and that team holds that player out to keep LeBron on the sidelines? In this case, I would be ok with it since both players have nearly equal values to their teams, but I dont’ think it’s a precedent Stern will want to set. If Stern thinks there was genuine intent to hurt, then I think it’s the end of World Peace’s season (including all the playoffs). If he fails to see the intent to harm, expect just the rest of the regular season and the first round. That’s ultimately my best guess as to where it ends up.

So what do you think?
