Bruce Chen, Wei-Yin Chen, Dillon Gee-Spot Starter Selections-Saturday, April 28

by MLB

As we head into the last few days of this scoring week, many fantasy owners find themselves scrambling for pitching starts to boost their innings, help their WHIP and ERA, and pile up the points. There are also many owners who don’t like to hold just 1 pitcher for a specific roster spot, instead choosing to “stream” starters through that position to capitalize the production from that spot.

Yesterday, my big pick was Joe Saunders who had the best outing in the Majors of any starting pitcher going the distance while shutting out the Marlins. (check out more in our sleeper central) You can see my results for the last week at the bottom of the page. Here’s my 3 picks for today’s action. All 3 are unowned in at least 50% of ESPN leagues (percentages included).

Bruce Chen-KC: (6.1%) Chen hasn’t had good luck but now he’ll get the chance to face the leagues worst team (record-wise) the Minnesota Twins. Last time out, he limited the Jays in 7 innings to just 3 runs, the time before that he gave up just 2 runs over 7, and to start the year he went 6 shutout innings. None of those outings, however, led to a win. Chen gets to face off with Jason Marquis who still hasn’t shown much this year and should be able to limit the Twins and help contribute to your fantasy team as well.

Wei-Yin Chen-Bal: (1.3%) Chen has 15 K’s in 17 innings and faces the strikout-prone A’s tonight at Oriole Park at Camden Yards. He goes against Tyson Ross, who is a decent grab too, but I think the O’s lineup is far better than the A’s and Wei-Yin Chen will be in line for the win and help you in K’s as well.

Dillon Gee-NYM: (3.3%) Gee will try to forget his last start where he was pounded by the Giants. This time he gets the Rockies in Denver in a tough matchup. Colorado hung 18 on the Mets last night, but that doesn’t necessarily affect today’s game. The Rockies are proving the “momentum is the next day’s starting pitcher” cliche but the problem in, they don’t have a starting pitcher. It was sopposed to be Jeremy Guthrie who landed on the DL after a freak bike accident. Gee will be opposed by Guillermo Moscoso who’s been getting knocked around AAA. It should set Gee up for a win if he can pitch decently. He pitched great 2 starts ago allowing just 1 run in 7 innings against the Braves and getting the W.
