Even on a slower day across Major League Baseball, there are starting pitching options on most league’s waiver wires. There’s only 14 pitchers getting the start and here are three that you can add if you need the innings, wins, or K’s in your daily leagues.

Henderson Alvarez-Tor: (4.7%) Alvarez pitched a complete game shutout against the struggling Angels his last time out and will face the lowly Twins offense tonight in Minnesota. The shutout didn’t necessarily come out of nowhere since he’s allowed 3 runs or less in all but one of his starts this season. He entes the game with a 2.83 ERA and a 1.04 WHIP. He won’t binge on K’s, but should have a solid start and be in line for a probable win.

Kevin Correia-Pit: (1.2%) The Pirates look to finish off a sweep of Washington but will need to beat Stephen Strasburg to do it. Kevin Correia is coming off his worst start of the year when he allowed five earned runs to the Reds. Prior to that start, he hadn’t allowed more than 2 earned runs in any start. Overall his ERA is 3.38 and his WHIP is 1.13. He has 12 K’s in 29.1 innings but could help lower your overall ERA and WHIP since the Nats haven’t been piling on runs.

Wei-Yin Chen-Bal: (4.2%) Taking Chen is a risky pickup since he faces Josh Hamilton and the mashing Texas Rangers lineup, but he’s been solid in most of his starts this year, so it’s a risk that may pay off on a day with such a shallow pool. In his five starts he’s pitched 29.1 innings allowing nine earned runs and striking out 23. His ERA coming into today’s matchup is 2.76 with a 1.36 WHIP.

Yesterday, Paul Maholm stepped up and showed the value of grabbing spot starters. He looked great against the Braves. The down-side though was apparent in the Jeanmar Gomez start where one bad inning killed his (and my) ERA. Here’s my results for the last week:
