Spot Starter Selections for Sunday, June 16

We’re quickly running out of week for fantasy baseball. If you need help in starting pitcher stats, there’s still time left though. After taking a week off, we’re back with our daily picks, and here’s my top three spot or streaming starter options.

The Picks

Jose Quintana – Chw: (0.7% owned) Since taking John Danks spot in the rotation, Quintana has made four starts and allowed no more than two earned runs in any of them. He’ll face the Dodgers in LA at 4:10 matched up against Chris Capuano. While the Dodgers have one of the best records in baseball, their offense is still without Matt Kemp and ranks outside the top 10 for the season in runs scored. It should be a good, low-scoring game so Quintana should be able to contribute in ERA and WHIP even if the W is out of reach. If you need big K numbers, look elsewhere since Quintana hasn’t struck out more than four in any start and has just 14 in 27.1 innings.

Garrett Richards – LAA: (6.8%) Richards is probably the best strikeout option widely available. He has started two games this year holding the Mariners and Dodgers to one earned run a piece in his two starts. He has 12 K’s in 12 innings in his two starts and is 1-0 on the season with a 1.38 ERA and a 1.23 WHIP. Richards and the Halos will face off against the D-Backs in Anaheim at 3:35 as they battle Ian Kennedy who takes his 5-6 record with a 4.32 ERA to the hill.

Franklin Morales – Bos: (0.1%) Morales fills in for Josh Beckett making his first start of the year. He has been stretched our recently trowing 4.1 and 3 innings in his last two outings. He hasn’t allowed an earned run in either of those games while striking out seven. He has a 3.04 ERA in his 22 games out of the ‘pen with a 1.23 WHIP. He probably won’t go deep into the game, but looks to be lined up for a nice start matching up against the Cubs in Wrigley in the Sunday Night Baseball Matchup
