There’s only nine games on tap for Monday night and most of the quality starters are mostly owned. There are a few solid options though if you’re in need of a starting pitching boost to get started this week. Come back each late afternoon or early evening for our picks for the next day. Here’s the three best options who are available in over half of ESPN leagues (ownership percentage in parentheses)
Derek Lowe – Cle: (18.2% owned) The Indians were able to pick up Lowe from the Braves this offseason and he’s paid off going 7-5 to in his first 13 starts. If you pick up Lowe, expect a higher WHIP and ERA and a lower strike out rate, but usually some solid innings and a shot at a win. He has a 3.78 ERA on the season with a 1.53 WHIP. Lowe will face the Reds at home Monday night. In six home starts, Lowe is 4-1 with a 1.37 ERA making him a decent option as he faces off with Mat Latos as the Tribe and Reds face off in the battle of Ohio.
Jake Arrieta – Bal: (2.9%) Back to the rotation after a short trip to the ‘pen, Arrieta looked good against Pittsburgh his last start. He went seven innings allowing a run on seven hits while striking out nine. Prior to that start, he had been getting knocked around, and he faces off against R.A. Dickey and the Mets. Proceed with caution, but Arrieta probably won’t get lit up by a punchless Mets offense either.
Hector Noesi – Sea: (0.1%) Noesi and the Mariners host the D-Backs in a West Coast showdown. Noesi faces Wade Miley in the first game of the series looking to build on his best start since May. Last time out he held the Padres to a run on five hits in seven innings. Noesi has had four starts this year where he’s held the opponent to one run or less and at home he’s 2-4 with a 3.20 ERA. If you need a streamer, Noesi is an option as he faces the offensively struggling Snakes.
The results for the last week’s picks will be posted in this section as they become available.
