Tuesday sets up to be another packed day of picks in ESPN’s Beat the Streak. There’s Cycling early in the morning followed by action from Wimbledon and Champions League Qualifying before the focus of the Streak-world returns Stateside for a full night of baseball with a sprinkling of MLS.
Yesterday, my picks were 4-4 in a perfect Monday. It’s been an awesome start to the month, and my entry’s already picked up the 5-game star. It normally doesn’t keep going this well, but I’ll definitely enjoy the ride while I can. It’s good to be back to the Streak after taking a month off. Hopefully we can keep the green train rollin’ with these picks
Picks for Tuesday, July 3

June 7, 2012; Paris, FRANCE; Petra Kvitova (CZE) in her semifinal match against Maria Sharapova (RUS) on day 12 of the 2012 French Open. Sharapova won 6-3 6-3. Mandatory Credit: Susan Mullane-US PRESSWIRE
9:30-Any Other Result - This pick is basically history versus current form. In their past meetings, Serena has won twice in two sets with one being at Wimbledon in the semi-fianls in 2010. Kvitova hasn’t lost at Wimbledon since that semifinal as she took the title last year without having to face Williams. She just made the semifinals in the French Open and has been playing well coming into this Major. Both players survived tough three-set matches to get here and I think this one goes three as well. Kvitkova is a far better player than she was two years ago as her #4 ranking would indicate and I don’t think it’s an easy match for Serena despite her past success against the Czech. Confidence Meter: 5 (out of 10)
7:10-New York Mets – I like Niese coming off a great June (more here) and the Phillies are scuffling scoring just two runs in each of their three games against the fish. Niese will face Vance Worley who gave up four runs on four walks the only time he face the Mets. Niese pitched in that game too going 6.2 innings for one of his six wins on the season. The Mets are at home which always helps, but it’s baseball so it’s hard to be too sure of a regular season game. Confidence Meter: 6

Jun 22, 2012; Chicago, IL, USA; Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Chris Sale (49) delivers a pitch in the sixth inning against the Milwaukee Brewers at US Cellular Field. The Brewers won 1-0 in ten innings. Mandatory Credit: Dennis Wierzbicki-US PRESSWIRE
8:10-Chicago White Sox- In my last two picks, I’m going with two of the best starting pitchers in the AL right now. If you only want one pick on the night, go with the White Sox at home against the Rangers. It’s tough to pick against Texas, but Chris Sale has been awesome. In 14 starts the Chicago southpaw has held opponents to two or fewer earned runs 11 times. He’s been even better at home and hasn’t allowed a run in his last two starts spanning 16 innings. He’ll be opposed by Roy Oswalt who’s hard to count on in just his third start in the Majors this season. Confidence Meter: 4
10:10-Seattle Mariners- King Felix was dominant against the Red Sox his last time out and now he’ll face the Orioles and Wei-Yin Chen at Safeco. Chen was knocked around his last time out and has struggled recently after a really good stretch earlier in the year. The Mariners offense is always hard to pick, but overall I think they are underrated as a team and with their ace on the mound I can go with the pick. Confidence Meter: 6
