As we head into possibly the slowest sports day of the calendar year, there is some Streak for the Cash picks to keep us going. There’s only six picks but they’re spread out enough to keep something active for most of the day even with no action from the “major” sports.
There are some picks I like today. Yesterday ended up as much of a split decision for me. I went 2-1 on props, 1-1 on earlier picks in the day, and lost the overall game pick as the NL won their third in a row behind Melky Cabrera (featured in my fantasy All-Stars). I can’t wait until everything gets back up and running in the next few days so there’s more options, but here’s what I like best on the board today.
6:20 AM- Australia, Italy or France: The tour enters its 10th stage which has some solid climbs and descents and shapes up to be another compelling leg for cycling fans. For those of us just looking for green, it’s a tossup as most props are. The two favorites (set by oddsmakers) are Cadal Evans (Australia) and Vincenzo Napali (Italy). Four of the top six and five of the top 10 are from Australia, Italy, or France. That’s why I’m rolling with this pick to start my day, but don’t go crazy putting a long streak on it. Confidence Meter: 3 (out of 10)
12:35- San Antonio Sliver Stars: The Stars are a 4 1/2 point favorite on the road. They’ve been on a roll winning seven straight and 9 of 10. They did drop a game on the road to Chicago earlier this year, but the Sky lineup has been hurt by injuries since then. Confidence Meter: 5
7:30 – Philadelphia Union: This isn’t an MLS game but it involves MLS teams in the US Open Cup. Phily hasn’t been this deep into the competition before and their fans seem to be all in on them winning it. They beat their opponents in the semis, Sporting Kansas City, 4-0 earlier this MLS season. The game will take place in Philadelphia at PPL Park where the Union have won their last two MLS games by a 7-0 aggregate. I think it will be close, but they will move on over an inconsistent Sporting KC squad. Confidence Meter: 6
10:00 – Seattle Sounders: In the second semi-final Seattle hosts Chivas USA. This isn’t a straight up who will advance pick with Chivas being given the draw at the end of regulation. I’ll still go with Seattle though because 1-the match is in Seattle, 2-Seattle is 10 points better than Chivas in the MLS Table, and 3-they have a chance to host the final if they win which would be huge in Seattle where the Sounders are a big draw. Giving the draw makes me a little nervous, and if I’m at w4 or more I’ll stay away. Confidence Meter: 5
Overall Picks: 29-19
Picks with Confidence over 5: 11-7
Current Personal Streak: W1
