Streak for the Cash Picks, August 4

Bob Donnan-US PRESSWIRE

As ESPN’s Streak for the Cash enters the first weekend of the month, there’s plenty of options to choose from as you try and build your streak. It’s a morning focused on London with three Olympic picks. There’s three more in the afternoon with some PGA Tour and MLB mixed in as well. The evening once again belongs to the Major Leagues of Soccer and Baseball.

Yesterday, my picks finally gained some traction and went 4-2 thanks to the A’s walkoff win last night. My personal entry is up to three wins and hopefully I can build on that with some of these picks

Picks for Saturday, 8/4

9:00- Serena Williams 2-0: If Williams is on her game, this should be a cruise to the gold for her. She dominated Wimbledon on these same courts. In the semifinals, Williams won 6-1, 6-2 over #1 in the world Victoria Azarenka. She’s beaten Sharapova in an astounding seven straight matches and five of those have been in straight sets. This should be another addition to Williams’ trophy case. Confidence Level: 7

4:55- Jamaica takes the gold in the 100m: The Americans have two strong hopefuls here but the Jamaicans dominate sprinting both men’s and women’s sprinting and went 1-2-3 in Beijing. It’s not a lock, but the Jamaicans are heavily favored with Shelly Ann Fraser-Pryce the favorite to win it all and Veronica Campbell-Brown and Kerron Stewart also solid possibilities. If one of those three doesn’t make the finals that obviously changes the odds, but I think Jamaica gets gold here. Confidence Level: 5.

7:10 – Tampa Bay Rays: Jeremy Hellickson has been incredible lately going six innings or more in each start since the beginning of July and never allowing more than three earned runs. He shut out the Angels for six innings his last time out while evening his record at 6-6. He faces Wei-Yin Chen and the Orioles in Tampa for what should be a low-scoring game. The Rays are winning those a lot lately as they try to ride their pitching into the Wild Card race. I think they’ll get this one behind another good game from Hellickson who had dominated the O’s and has been pitching well as of late. Confidence Meter: 4.

Late Pick – As of 2 AM ET as I’m finishing this up there’s no picks past 8:35. I would think that there’s one coming… Check back for my pick in the comments later today if one is posted.
