Streak for the Cash Picks, August 9

by Daily Rounds

Mark J. Rebilas-US PRESSWIRE

Hopefully you had a good stunt day yesterday as the picks were fast and furious all day long. Today ESPN’s Streak for the Cash mini-game returns to a more normal pace. With Major League Baseball taking a big of a breather with just nine games, ESPN welcomes back NFL football to the network by focusing on that this evening after some PGA Championship and Olympic picks get our day started.

My entry was up-and-down on the stunt day yesterday and I ended up with a one-game winning streak. Hopefully today I can get some green stacked up:

Picks for 8/9

Aug. 5, 2012; Akron, OH, USA; Keegan Bradley tees off the 17th hole during the final round of the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational at Firestone Country Club-South Course. Mandatory Credit: Debby Wong-US PRESSWIRE

8:30- Keegan Bradley win or tie: Bradley stormed from behind to take the Bridgestone Invitational while Tiger also had a solid Sunday to save his week at Firestone. These two past champions will be in the same group and are both playing well. It’s a nine-hole prop so I always take the tie unless there is a compelling reason not to and I don’t see much of one here. In a straight-up match, I’d stay away. In this prop, Bradley is a solid pick. Confidence Meter: 5 (out of 10)

10:00- US in straight sets: The US Women’s Volleyball team takes on S. Korea in our first Olympic pick of the day. They are the heavy favorites to take the tournament and beating S. Korea shouldn’t offer much of a challenge. Straight sets is always tough to bank on, but the Americans have shown a clear talent advantage so far in London. Confidence Meter: 4

1:10 – Tampa Bay Rays: Matt Moore goes for Tampa against Henderson Alvaraez for the visiting Blue Jays. In his last two starts Moore hasn’t given up a run while allowing 10 hits in 11.2 innings with 12 strikeouts and 5 walks. The Rays have beatne the Blue Jays 4-1 and 3-2 in the first two games of the series and I expect another low-scoring game in this one. The Rays have Evan Longoria back and I think they’ll have enough offense to get them the win here to complete the sweep. Confidence Meter: 7

2:45- United States: The US Women’s Soccer team will look to avenge their Women’s World Cup loss to Japan in the gold-medal match. Japan is a solid team with a good defense. I think Alex Morgan and Abby Wambach score and the US wins 2-1. Confidence Meter: 6

7:05- Baltimore Orioles: As I wrote here yesterday, Wei-Yin Chen is good. He’s been pitching excellent for the Orioles who just swept Seattle and now welcome in the Royals who took two of three in Chicago. KC will send Will Smith to the mound who is 2-4 with a 6.00 ERA. Smith has been far better on the road than at home, but I think he’ll struggle in Camden Yards and the O’s will get the W in this one. Confidence Meter: 7
