Wednesday shapes up to be another jam-packed day of baseball with 15 games starting from 12:40 ET in Miami to 10:05 in Anaheim. Although there’s plenty of games the spot starters on the waiver wire are a little thin. There are a few options though if you really need to make a pickup to bolster your pitching staff mid-week. Here’s the three best options who are owned in less than half of ESPN leagues.
Pickups for Wednesday
Joe Saunders – Ari: (7.3% owned in ESPN leagues) Saunders will look for revenge against the Cardinals who knocked him around earlier this season as he starts in St. Louis tomorrow night. He’ll have a tough matchup with Adam Wainwright, but has a better ERA on the road (2-3, 2.49) than at home (4-5, 4.72). He has allowed two earned runs or less in three of his last four starts and is now 6-8 on the year with a 3.52 ERA and a 1.30 WHIP.

Mike Leake – Cin: (4.0%) Leake and the Reds host the Mets on Wednesday night. Earlier this season Leake allowed just one earned run in seven innings against New York at Citi Field. He’ll be matched up against R.A. Dickey so he may not get much run support, but should be able to have a quality start against the Mets offense that scored just 17 runs in their last six games and has been held to three runs or less in four of those games.
Justin Germano – ChC: (0.4%) In deep leagues if you need a flier, Germano may be set up for a solid outing as the Cubs host the Astros. Since being acquired from Boston he’s made three starts and has pitched 16 innings allowing eight runs to the Reds, Dodgers, and Pirates. He should have a bit of an easier go against Houston as he tries to level his record at 2-2. In limited action this season he has a 3.28 ERA and a 1.22 WHIP in 24.2 innings.
