Yesterday was my best day ever for my picks. Kris Medlen, Dan Straily, and Trevor Cahill combined to go 21 1/3 innings while allowing just one run. For the first time this season my one-week WHIP is under 1.00 and my ERA is flirting with 3.00. You can check total results at the bottom of the picks page each day. The picks each day are the best scheduled starters available in over half of ESPN leagues. Check out our archive here.

Obviously, I’m excited my picks are doing great, but I’m a little afraid of the natural regression to the mean. I’ll fight that with these picks for Saturday:

Possible Pickups

Patrick Corbin – Ari: (owned in 14.9% of ESPN leagues) Corbin has been great in the three starts that he’s made since coming back to the rotation. He’s allowed only four runs in those three starts on 12 hits and five walks in 19 innings while going 2-0. Corbin gets to face Houston in his start Saturday making him a great spot start option.

Bartolo Colon – Oak: (24.1%) The ageless one continues to quietly do his thing in Oakland largely unnoticed by the fantasy baseball world. He was knocked around in Chicago his last time out giving up five earned runs in 5.2 innings, but prior to that had a three-start, 17.2 innings scoreless streak going. On the year he’s 9-9 with a 1.24 WHIP and a 3.55 ERA. Saturday, he pitches against the visiting Indians and rookie Corey Kluber who was pummeled in his MLB debut his last start. Colon has been a little inconsistent, but he’s not a bad option if you need a quick pickup for a start, a good shot at a win, and a help in the ERA and WHIP departments.

Eric Stults – SD: (1.6%) Much like Corbin, Stults has bounced back and forth from bullpen to rotation and had success in his recent starts. Stults is 2-0 allowing just a run in 13 innings this time in the rotation and has eight strikeouts with just two walks. He pitches at home in Petco Park on Saturday, which is always a good thing for starters, while the Padres host the visiting Giants with the hole Melky left in an already suspect lineup. Stults doesn’t have a ton of experience starting or I’d be way more confident, but he’s a solid pickup that has little chance of implosion if you need a starter for Saturday.
