There’s only two days of streaking left in August, but ESPN has a solid 13 picks to make in its Streak for the Cash mini-game. Things get started with US Open tennis action, move to some afternoon baseball and soccer , then finish up with the first college football games of the season and some more baseball in the nightcap.
Yesterday, my picks went 5-3 and I won on four of my five most confident picks. I got greened by Azarenka and the A’s so I’m on a W2 coming into today. Here’s the picks for today with the one stat you need to know.
Picks for 8/30
11:10- 8 games or less: Ana Ivanovic and Sofia Arvidsson have played 11 sets in their five previous meetings (all wins by Ivanovic). Seven have ended in eight games or less including their last two sets which were 6-0, 6-1. Confidence Meter: 3 (out of 10)
12:05- Oakland Athletics: The A’s have beaten Cleveland in their last seven meetings and they’ll face Justin Masterson who has a 1-4 record and a 9.12 ERA in five career starts against Oakland. Confidence Meter: 7
3:00- Any other Result: Liverpool won 1-0 a week ago and doesn’t need to break the Hearts of Midlothian to move on. They should win but probably not by 3 to the Scottish Premir League team. Confidence Meter: 4
7:05- Vanderbilt wins or Single Digit Loss: South Carolina is only favored by 6.5 points and Vanderbilt didn’t lose by double-digits at home all last year. South Carolina will be good this year, but will only win this one by 3. Confidence Meter: 5
8:10- Kansas City Royals: Royals starter Jeremy Guthrie has pitched 22 2/3 scoreless innings before losing his last start to the Red Sox. The Royals have won five in a row at home and the first two games in this series. Confidence Meter: 5
10:20- Washington State 2nd half points: Mike Leach takes over the WSU Cougars who averaged 29.8 points last year. He probably won’t win this game, but points will pile up for both teams in an entertaining nightcap. Confidence Meter: 7
Overall Record: 87-59 (.596)
Confident Picks (5+): 34-26 (.567)
Personal Streak: W2
