It’s a new month in ESPN’s Streak for the Cash mini-game which means fresh starts and new hope all around. This month’s start coincides nicely with the fresh start for all the College Football programs across the country as most school’s kick things off today.

I’ll do my best to get picks posted each morning with the amount of confidence and the key reason I’m making my pick for each matchup. So without any further fanfare, here’s the picks for the first of September:

Picks for 9/1

7:45-West Ham win: Fulham has had a major overhaul in the midfield and were a mess on the road last season. West Ham is 1-0 at home since moving back to the Premier League. Confidence Meter: 2 1/2 (out of 10)

9:05-Any Other Result: Navy’s option is always a tough one to defend no matter where the game is played. This one’s in Dublin, Ireland and I expect the Fighting Irish to win but with Tommy Rees and Cierre Wood suspended I don’t think they cover the 15 points. Confidence Meter: 5

12:05-Ohio points from FG and XP: Ohio is a solid MAC team that won their bowl game last year and returns a fast-paced up-tempo offense led by Tyler Tettleton. I think Penn State wins this game, but not by much with their offensive issues coming into the season. Confidence Meter: 7

August 5, 2012; St. Petersburg, FL, USA; Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Jeff Niemann (34) reacts in the dugout against the Baltimore Orioles at Tropicana Field. Baltimore Orioles defeated the Tampa Bay Rays 1-0. Mandatory Credit: Kim Klement-US PRESSWIRE

1:07-Tampa Bay Rays: The Rays get Jeff Niemann back from a fractured leg in Toronto as they try to bounce back after losing the first two games in this series. They’ll face Henderson Alvarez who they’ve knocked around in three starts this year leaving him 0-3 with a 6.11 ERA. Evan Longoria and Desmond Jennings both hit him very well. Confidence Meter: 6

3:35-Miami: Full breakdown here. It’s a toss-up game but Al Golden has the ‘Canes headed the right direction. Confidence Meter: 3

4:05- Seattle Mariners: King Felix is hot (allowing one run with 22 K’s in 25 2/3 innings his last three starts), he’s on a roll (9-0 with a 1.40 ERA in 14 starts since his last loss), and unhittable at home (1.98 ERA). The Angels counter with Ervin Santana and his 6.06 road ERA. Confidence Meter: 8

7:05-Clemson: Full breakdown here. Clemson’s offense is mostly in tact from last year and their defense should be improved. Auburn has two new coordinators and a new QB. Confidence Meter:4

10:35-Any Other Result: Oregon is good and they’ll probably win easily, but Arkansas State is not nobody. They won the Sun Belt last year going 10-3. 35 points is just too many to give, but hopefully I’ll be able to avoid this game entirely since I’ll be on a solid streak at this point. Confidence Meter: 3
