Streak for the Cash Picks, September 5

August 24, 2012; East Rutherford, NJ, USA; New York Giants running back David Wilson (34) is brought down by Chicago Bears linebacker Geno Hayes (91) and defensive backs Charles Tillman (33) and Craig Steltz (20) during the first quarter of a preseason NFL game at MetLife Stadium. Wednesday marks the return of the NFL to Streak for the Cash as the fake football of the preseason is finally behind us and the real professional games get underway as the Giants and Cowboys take the field in New York tonight. There’s three picks from that game with a US Open pick and the usual MLB picks tonight. There’s also some afternoon baseball to fill the time until kickoff with the Women’s US Open Quarterfinals starting things off at 11:10.

Yesterday, my picks were a sweet 6-0 and I got my streak up to a nin-game winner to start the season. I’ll go for 10 taking the Giants tonight, but here’s all the picks I like the most today:

Picks for 9/5

Sep 4, 2012; Queens, NY, USA; Maria Sharapova (RUS), rights, waits under an umbrella as it begins to rain in her match against Marion Bartoli (FRA) on day nine of the 2012 US Open at Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. Mandatory Credit: Robert Deutsch-USA TODAY Sports

11:10- Maria Sharapova: After their match was canceled due to rain, Sharapova and Marion Bartoli will resume play tomorrow at 11. Bartoli is ahead 4-0 in the first set so it will take a rally from Sharapova to get the win here. I think she’ll be able to get it done. She’s beaten Bartoli in each of their previous matches and the rain may have come at the perfect time for her to steady herself and get the win to move on to the semis. Confidence Meter: 3 (out of 10)

1:45- St. Louis Cardinals: R.A. Dickey has been awesome his last three starts but faces the Cardinals who have hit him well historically (4.04 ERA, .304 avg.) His three great starts have been against Miami, Houston, and Colorado. The Cardinals lineup in Busch Stadium is sure to much more formidable and they counter with an ace of their own as they send Adam Wainwright to the hill. Wainwright got knocked around his last start but had been rolling before that going 6-0 in seven starts with a 1.42 ERA. I’ll take the home team and the better lineup. Confidence Meter: 5

3:35- Oakland Athletics: Brandon McCarthy has been a beast at home for Oakland with a 2.59 ERA in nine home starts. The Angels got a good outing last night from Zack Greinke and turn tonight to Dan Haren who has been wildly inconsistent all season. I’ll go with McCarthy and the hometown A’s to take this West Coast matinee. Confidence Meter: 4

7:10- Tampa Bay Rays: The Yankees are fading fast and the Rays are surging. Hiroki Kuroda struggles on the road and Matt Moore is good at home. Go with momentum and the starting pitching matchup. Confidence Meter: 5

7:15- 9 games or more: Both players are rolling coming into this one. Serena has cruised through all her opponents to this point but Ana Ivanovic will prove a tough test for Serena as she’s only dropped one set to this point in the tournament. The two have met three times and in six sets just one was the under. Serena will take the match I think, but I expect this one to be 6-3 at least. Confidence Meter: 6

8:30- New York Giants: The Giants begin their title defense hosting the Cowboys in a big division game. They’ll be short-handed in the defensive backfield with Prince Amukamara sidelined but are four point favorites at home in week one. The Cowboys will be without Jason Witten which could hurt their passing game but should have an upgraded defense after using the draft and free agency to strengthen Rob Ryan’s D. Eli and the Giants passing attack will be a good test for them, but I think the Giants will win on the strength of their always-ferocious pass rush and the rushing duo of Ahmad Bradshaw and rookie David Wilson. Last year the Giatnswon in Dallas by three and rolled over the Cowboys on New Year’s Day to qualify for the playoffs where they went on to lift the Lombardi. Confidence Meter: 7

10:25- Passing TD: This prop is always a toss-up but both these teams have potent passing attacks. I’ll take Eli to Hakeem Nicks to give teh G-men the lead and streakers the green if they take passing TD. Confidence Meter: 3
