It’s the last Thursday night we won’t have an NFL game after last night’s Giants-Cowboys opener, but there’s still plenty of sports action to fill the Streak for the Cash board over on ESPN. The US Open tennis matches continue this morning mixed with the third of the four tournaments in the FedEx Cup, the BMW Championship. Later today there’s picks from Major League Baseball and Soccer as well as tonight’s college football game featuring Pittsburgh and Cincinnati in a Big East rivalry game.

Yesterday was a rough one for my picks going 2-5 overall and losing my nine-gamer when the Giants couldn’t begin their title defense with a win. I’m looking to get back into the green today with these picks:

Streak Picks for 9/6

10:48-Rory McIlroy: Rory is just too hot right now to pick against even with Tiger getting the tie. Rory hasn’t played competitively at Crooked Stick, but he’s the best player in the world. I think he’ll show that again by beating Tiger in this prop by a stroke or two. Confidence Meter: 3

:40-10 games or more:  The main reason to go under here is past history-Ferrer has won two of the three previous matches and only two of the six sets have gone ten games or more. I’m going with the over though based on current form. In Ferrer last match with Richard Gasquet (ranked 13 vs Tipsarevic’s 8) all three sets went ten games or more. In the round before that, Ferrer went to 10 or more with Lleyton Hewitt in two of their four sets. I’m taking current form over three matches from 2007 and 2008. It also wouldn’t surprise me if Tisarevic pulled this win out so I’d take any other result as well. Confidence Meter: 5

3:30- Par: The reason it’s par is that it’s the expected score. Anything could happen, but par’s the better pick. Confidence Meter: 4

7:05- Baltimore Orioles: Jason Hammel has had a nice first season in Baltimore and will take the mound for the first time after missing about eight weeks with a knee injury. The Yankees have lost 10 of 15 and send rookie Daid Phelps to the mound who pitches just 4.2 IP while issuing six walks to Baltimore his last time out. Hammel’s the wild card, but I’ll go with the O’s who have seven of their last 10 with the Yankees and seven of ten overall. It’s a huge four-game series that will go a long ways toward deciding the AL East. Confidence Meter: 6

8:05- Cincinnati Winning Margin: Cincinnati opens their season hosting Pitt who lost at home to FCS Youngstown State 31-17. They didn’t look good at all and going on the road to rival Cincinnati is a recipe for a rout. Confidence Meter: 8

8:06-No neither team scores on opening drive: Pitt’s offense did not look good last week and the Bearcats offense will be on its first offensive drive of the season. Crazy things could happen, but it’s most likely that neither team will score. Confidence Meter: 6

9:10-Djokovic wins 3-0:  In their seven previous matches, five have gone to Djokovic. One of his losses, the Djoker was forced to retire so really he’s 5-1 in matches he actually completed. Of the five wins, Del Potro has one one set and that was at the French open. In the other four wins, including three on hard court where they’ll meet tonight, Novak has won in straight sets which I expect again this evening. Confidence Meter: 5

10:00- 30 yards or fewer or no TD: I don’t expect the game to be all that close in the second half with Cincinnati running the ball mostly and shutting down the Pitt offense. If you’re on a winning streak of two or more, I’d stay away just because one long play can blow this prop for you. Confidence Meter: 2
