ESPN’s Streak for the Cash features 14 matchups to pick as we get ready to head into the weekend. There’s a nice mix of golf, soccer, and tennis early in the day with Major League Baseball and USA soccer on tap for tonight with some of Utah’s finest college football sprinkled in for variety.

Yesterday my picks went 5-4 overall and I ended the day with a two-game winning streak thanks to the Bearcats rolling Pitt and Charl Schwartzel shooting par on the 13th at Crooked Stick. Here’s the picks I like the most today.

Picks for 9/7

9:28-Webb Simpson: Simpson and Van Belt (Bo not Scott) are tied for the lead with two others at the BMW Championship, but Simpson was two strokes better over the back nine yesterday and has more of a chance to stick atop the leaderboard headed into what shapes up to be a “who’s who” leaderboard including a guy named Rory and a guy named Tiger. Since Webb has to give the tie in this prop, I’d stay away unless you’re in the red or just a W1. Confidence Meter: (out of 10)

1:00-Any Other Score: Rory and Tiger reach the featured 13th for this prop which is 6 strokes or any other score. Yesterday Tiger birdied while Rory bogeyed. These one hole golf props are a quick way to get out of the red, but are always a chancy proposition to put a long streak on. Confidence Meter: 2

2:05-Victoria Azarenka: It’s a great great semifinal match between #1 and #3 in the world as Azarenka faces off with Maria Sharapova. Azarenka owns the 5-4 head-to-head advantage but has dominated recently winning the last four hard court matches between the two in straight sets. Sharapova almost lost last round and may not be able to take down the #1 in the world. Confidence Meter: 6

4:30- Colombia win or Draw: Columbia is at home as they host Uruguay in the best matchup of the afternoon. At home and getting the draw usually means green in Streak, but this should be a great game that could go either way. Confidence Meter: 3

7:05- Baltimore Orioles: Gotta love the way the O’s won last night and now get to send Wei-Yin Chen who’s pitching well against a struggling Luke Hughes as they look to take sole possession of first in the AL East. Confidence Meter: 5

8:00- USA Win: The US men are fresh off a big win in Mexico and travel to Jamaica to continue play in the CONCACAF section of World Cup qualifying. They’re favored to get the win here and should be able to get the points to stay atop the group. Jamaica doesn’t have much star power and should be a nice win for the Americans under Klinsmann as they continue to build toward Rio 2014. Confidence Meter: 6

10:05-Detroit Tigers: Scherzer is dealing for Detroit right now. He has won his last five starts with a remarkable 1.03 ERA. He’s second in the MLB is strikeouts just five back of teammate Justin Verlander. The Angels will counter with Ervin Santana who has been up and down this season but has a solid  3-1 record with a 2.96 ERA in his last four starts. I’ll still go with Scherzer although the Angels lineup is always scary to pick against  Confidence Meter: 5

10:15- San Francisco Giants: The Dodgers have lost 10 of their last 16 coming into one of the most important series of their season. They’ll need a nice start from Josh Beckett on the road to beat their division-rival and close to within 3 1/2 game of the division-leading Giants. The Giants will send Tim Lincecum to the mound to oppose him. The two pitchres have had remarkably similar seasons as both have set career high’s in losses already and have gotten absolutely crushed at times. Both looked much better their last time out pitching into the seventh and getting a win. I’ll take the Giants at home in what should be an intense and exciting series. Confidence Meter:  3
