Week 2 in the NFL produced some major surprises, fantastic finishes, and some huge statistical games for C.J. Spiller, Eli Manning, and Danny Amendola among others. Unfortunately, it also produced several major injuries for Fantasy Football owners to manage around going forward.
Here’s what we know as week 2 wraps up with Monday Night Football tonight and we turn our attention to our week 3 lineups and who we need to target on the waiver wire.
Aaron Hernandez-New England Patriots-TE: Hernandez didn’t even show up in the box score rolling his ankle severely before he was able to make a single catch. X-Rays were negative but the word on the street is that Hernandez has a high ankle sprain and will miss several weeks. Go get yourself a different tight end if he was your starter. Until we know more about his prognosis, don’t drop Hernandez if you can help it, but don’t plan on him starting anytime soon.
Ahmad Bradshaw-New York Giants-RB: Bradshaw left the game with a neck injury and will have an MRI today. Andre Brown looks like a great pickup since the Giants play on Thursday Night against Carolina, and it’s a longshot that Bradshaw would play with such a short week. Check back in the next few days for the latest on Bradshaw as the results of his MRI become available.
Greg Jennings-Green Bay Packers-WR: He wasn’t injured yesterday, but Jennings missed Thursday Night’s game with a groin injury. Coach Mike McCarthy said he expect to have Jennings ready for Green Bay’s week three game on next Monday Night against Seattle.
Steven Jackson-St. Louis Rams-RB: Jackson was banished to the bench after an unsportsmanlike penalty in the 2nd quarter. Coach Jeff Fisher said it was due to a groin injury not the penalty, so monitor his injury throughout the week to know his availability for next week’s game. Daryl Richardson is a great pickup on the waiver wire.
Jeremy Maclin-Philadelphia Eagles-WR: Maclin re-injured his hip pointer and most injury experts are saying to not expect him to play next week against Arizona. Make sure you have a contingency plan in place in case J-Mac is sidelined.
Antonio Gates- San Diego Chargers-TE: In a surprising move, Gates was a late inactive for San Diego. He was very close to playing so expect him back for next week.
Kevin Boss-Kansas City Chiefs-TE: Kevin Boss took a blow to the head in the Chiefs loss in Buffalo and didn’t return. He was starting to be a TE2 option, but check to see if he has a concussion and needs to pass tests before adding him from the waiver wire.
Blaine Gabbert-Jacksonville Jaguars-QB: If His horrible week (7-19 for 53 yards) didn’t dissuade you from using him in any fantasy format, he’s having an MRI on both his toe and his hamstring today. There’s better options out there people…
Todd Heap-Arizona Cardinals-TE: Heap left with a knee injury after turning in a five-catch 62-yard game. He may be a fringe TE candidate if he’s healthy.
