Streak for the Cash comes off a busy weekend with a solid 11 picks today focusing mainly on Monday Night Football and the rapidly dwindling Major League Baseball regular season. There’s soccer early to get things started from Russia and England, so we’ll start there with our picks of the day.
Picks for 9/17
3:05-Everton win: Everton has won eight out of nine home games dating back to last season including a 3-1 win in the last meeting between these two clubs. Tim Howard in goal is my boy, so I’ll go with Everton to get the home three points. Confidence Meter: 6
7:10-Atlanta Braves: The Braves are coming off a sweep of the Nats as they remained in the conversation for the NL East title. Atlanta has dominated Miami all year (9-3) including winning five of the last six games between the teams. Tim Hudson has either been lights out or horrible lately and wasn’t great against Milwaukee his last time out. On the other hand, the Marlins are scuffling losing four of their last six and the Braves need the game, and I think they’ll get it. Confidence Meter: 4
7:10-Philadelphia Phillies: The Mets just can’t score runs no matter how good their pitching is. R.A. Dickey has been incredible this year, but Cliff Lee has been even better over his last four starts with a 0.99 ERA. The Mets have been horrible as they’ve dropped eight of nine while struggling to muster any offense. The Phillies need a push now if they want to climb back into the Wild Card race after losing three of four to the Astros. Cliff Lee is a big-game pitcher and I think he’ll get a big win for the team. Confidence Meter: 5
8:35- Denver Broncos: I broke this down in my pick’em post (click here), but I think it’s even clearer after yesterday’s results. The Falcons rolled last week over the Chiefs, but the Chiefs got trounced by Buffalo after the Bills looked horrible week one. The team that beat the Bills, the Jets, lost to Pittsburgh yesterday who Denver handled to move to 1-0. Denver’s week one win looks way more convincing in retrospect and I think Peyton and the ponies pull this one out over a Falcons team that always seems to underwhelm when expectations are put on them. Confidence Meter: 7 If I was going props I’d take Peyton and four, but that’s subject to change based on the flow of the first half.
