Streak for the Cash Picks and Analysis, September 25

Cole Hamels (35) takes the hill for the Phillies as they try to keep their playoff hopes alive. Anthony Gruppuso-US PRESSWIRE

Look on the bright side, there will be no replacement officials involved in today’s Streak for the Cash action as soccer from Poland, Russia, and England are part of a baseball-heavy schedule in today’s 10 picks. Yesterday, the replacement refs helped me to a 6-0 record as the Seahawks and their D moved the Seahawks to 2-1. Hopefully, my picks do as well today.

Picks for 9/25

9:30- Wisla Krakow win: Krakow is mid-table from the top league in Poland. Warta Poznan is in the lower half of the table of the next lower league. Krakow is a heavy favorite here, but Polish soccer isn’t something I watch and follow regularly, so I can only go Confidendce Meter: (out of 10)

2:10- White Sox win by 2 runs or more: It’s always tough to give a run in Major League Baseball props, but this is the Indians. The White Sox are at home and desperately need the win. It’s tough giving the run, but take Chicago and Francisco Liriano to handle the Tribe and Corey Kluber. Confidence Meter: 4

7:05- Philadelphia Phillies: Philadelphia needs a big-time push over the last week and a half and some help if they want to make the playoffs. While I don’t think we’ll see them in the postseason, I do think they’ll win this game behind Cole Hamels. The Phillies are at home and they lead the season series 7-5. Hamels will be matched up with Ross Detwiler. Detwiler has been pitching well lately and beat Hamels earlier this year with six shutout innings. Hamels is 12-5 with a 2.48 ERA lifetime against the Nats, so don’t expect many runs in this one. The Phillies have more to play for and are at home. It’s probably the strongest pick on a not-so-strong day for Streak for the Cash. Confidence Meter: 6

10:05- LA Dodgers: The Dodgers have not been good and are rapidly running out of time to make up ground in the Wild Card race. Josh Beckett will take the ball in the first game of their series at San Diego as he faces off with Edinson Volquez. Beckett has dominated the Padres in his career (5-1, 2.16 ERA) but hasn’t pitched against them since ’07. LA took two of three from Cincinnati over the weekend while the Padres have dropped two of three in their last two series in San Francisco and Arizona. Confidence Meter: 3
