The first Sunday of the month brings with it another great slate of NFL games and therefore a full Streak for the Cash board with 22 options as we start off the day. There’s EPL to get things started at 10:00 this morning, a PGA prop from the Timberlake/Shriners tournament, one WNBA pick, and a whole lot of football and playoff baseball on the schedule for today.
Yesterday, my overall picks went just 4-4 but my personal entry (based on my most confident picks) is moving further over .500 after a rough start to the month. Here’s my favorite picks for today:
Picks for 10/7
10:00- Aston Villa win, draw, or lose by 1: Yesterday Man City won a similar prop by beating Sunderland by two or more. Today, though, I think taking the goal is the way to go with Villa visiting White Hart Lane to take on Tottenham. The main reason is that the Spurs aren’t as good as City. They got a huge win against Man U their last time out but played to a draw at home with West Bron and Norwich City earlier in the season. Their other home Premier League game they beat the bottom-of-the-table Queens Park Rangers but only by 1 goal. If I was going to pick this game, I’d take the extra goal with Villa, but I’ll stay away since it’s only a Confidence Meter: 3 (out of 10).
12:07-Detroit Tigers: If your choice is to pick the MLB games, I’d take Fister and Detroit at home in this one. Since the All-Star break, Fister is 8-4 with a 2.67 ERA. He’ll match up with Tommy Milone who has had his road struggles this season (4.83 ERA vs 2.74 at home). Both Fister and Milone got a win when they faced the opposing team earlier this season, but I’ll go with the home team since their lineup is hitting a bit better, their pitcher has been on a nice run, and they have more playoff experience than the upstart A’s. Oakland’s momentum is still a scary thing to pick against so I can only go Confidence Meter: 5
1:00- Cincinnati Bengals: Click here for all my NFL Picks and analysis. Confidence Meter: 7
1:00- Atlanta Falcons: Click here for all my NFL Picks and analysis. Confidence Meter: 6
4:05- Bears winning Margin: I think Chicago will run over the Jags and won’t allow many points so should be able to cover. It’s not a lock though since the total of FG+XP can vary greatly from game to game. Confidence Meter: 4
4:25- Christian Ponder: Ponder is playing against the Titans who have given up 285 passing yards a game, 27th in the league. The Vikings D has only allowed 230 per game. The Vikings offense is starting to come together with Adrian Peterson recovering and Jerome Simpson working his way back. On the other hand, the Titans Hasselbeck will be making his first start and will have to play without Kenny Britt most likely, as he recovers from an ankle injury. Ponder’s the better pick here as long as Percy Harvin doesn’t get all the yardage with runbacks and the offense isn’t on the field enough. Confidence Meter: 5
6:30-28 points or more: Depending of the first half of this game, this pick might change. Both offenses are definitely capable of putting up points and I expect this to be a shoot out. Last week, the Patriots would’ve blown this prop away by themselves scoring 45 in the second half and 31 in the fourth quarter alone. The Broncos scored 27 of their own in their second half against Oakland last week. Confidence Meter: 6
9:37- San Francisco Giants: The Reds 5-2 win in game one was amazing especially after they lost ace Johnny Cueto in the first inning to back spasms. Matt Cain had been lights out at home and they beat him in San Francisco mainly due to a big night from Brandon Phillips. The Reds will have to overcome the odds once again if they want to head home with a 2-0 lead. Madison Bumgarner is an astounding 18-4 with a 2.15 ERA in his last 25 starts at AT&T Park. His team has won 20 of those 25 games. He’s also had success against Cincinnati tossing a one-hitter with eight strikeouts on June 28. Bronson Arroyo meanwhile has struggled in San Fran with a 4.11 ERA and an 0-4 record over the years. He’ll try to improve on his 6.08 ERA in the postseason against a desperate Giants team badly in need of a win before they head to the Queen City. Confidence Meter: 7
Yesterday’s Results: 4-4
Overall Record: 15-19
My Entry: 10-9
