Happy Columbus Day! Enjoy the day off if you get it, and enjoy Monday Night Football if your not a Jets fan. For the rest of us, it’ll be a nice capstone on the end of the day and has three Streak for the Cash picks involved in it. Before kickoff there’s the opportunity for some green from the Finnish Veikkausliiga and Greek Super League in soccer, the WNBA in baketball, and game two of the NLDS and ALDS in baseball.
Make sure to come back tomorrow for all our normal Fantasy Football breakdown and coverage from an exciting week 5 in the NFL. Enjoy your fantasy football team’s success, or start plotting your revenge if you had a less than successful weekend.
If you’re a regular Streak for the Cash reader, you know that I got off to a rough start to the month, but my overall picks are back close to .500 which I hopefully can reach with these picks today.
Picks for 10/8
11:30-Mariehamn win or draw: After 29 matches in the Finnish season, these two teams are side-by-side in the table in the third and fourth position. Inter is currently in third which would automatically qualify them for the Europa League and Marihamn is five points behind. Inter hasn’t won outright in its last five matches, but will return home to take on Mariehamn in this match. Overall this season, Inter is 10-3-2 at home and Marihamn is just 5-3-7 on the road. I expect a draw to be honest, with how even these teams are, but Mariehamn has won their last two meetings outright 3-0 at Inter and 2-1 at home. I’d stay away if you’re on a decent-sized streak, but I’d take the draw and the team in better form in this one. Confidence Meter: 4 (out of 10)
1:30- Levadiakos win: The Greek League is just underway, but Levadiakos and Panthrakikos have sunk to the bottom at 14th and 15th out of 16 teams. Levadiakos won their last home game 3-0, so I think they’re the way to go if you need a pick in this one. Confidence Meter: 3
4:37- St. Louis Cardinals: The Cards need a win to avoid going down 0-2 headed for Washington. This is the kind of game that St. Louis seems to always pull out. They’ll have to overcome Nats starter Jordan Zimmermann in this game, but he’s been far less effective away from Washington. Jaime Garcia will get to start at home where he’s been 3-0 with a 1.61 ERA his last four starts and on the other hand has been far better at home with a 2.82 ERA over his nine starts. Confidence Meter: 3 1/2
4:38- No Home Run during Innings 1-3: In game one, there were no home runs the entire game. In fact, there weren’t even any extra base hits. Zimmermann allowed less than a home run per nine innings (0.83) in the regular season, and Jaime Garcia 0.52 HR per nine innings. Anything could happen, but the numbers indicate no HR is the more likely outcome. Confidence Meter: 6
8:35- Texans win by double digits: This is as close to a lock as you’ll get in Streak for the Cash. The Jets are playing horribly losing 34-0 last week to San Francisco at home and losing by 17 at Pittsburgh three weeks ago. I can’t see them keeping this close with the Texans who look like legitimate contenders for the Super Bowl with a hard-hitting, fundamentally sound defense and a potent rush-heavy offense. The Jets rank second to worst in the league in rushing yards allowed. Houston will dominate this game from the start and win easily by double-digits. The only reason to even wonder about this pick is that everyone agrees on how obvious it is. Confidence Meter: 9
10:15-Yes Both teams will score a touchdown: This is a joke of a prop basically asking “Will the Jets score a TD in the second half?” I think the game will be out of hand at this point, and that the Jets will manage to score. However, they didn’t score a touchdown in the whole game last week and only reached the endzone once in their other loss in Pittsburgh. They’re at home so I gotta think they get their somehow. Confidence Meter: 3
