Streak for the Cash Analysis and Picks-October 12

After a walk-off from Jayson Werth (28) can the Nats breakout of their offensive slump and get a win in game 5 of their NLDS? Photo by Brad Mills-US PRESSWIRE

Friday’s Streak for the Cash schedule is stuffed with soccer in the morning with World Cup Qualifying taking center stage for most of the day. There’s also two more deciding games in the ALDS and NLDS as the Cardinals, Nationals, Yankees, and Orioles attempt to extend their season and move on to the next round. Add in some Chippewas and Midshipmen playing football, and that’s the Streak for the Cash board for today.

Yesterday my picks finally got things headed in the right direction and I finished on a nice little W3 to end the day and head into Friday. Here’s what I like most for picking today:

Picks of the day for 10/12

11:00-Portugal win or draw: This prop seems backwards to me, and it wouldn’t shock me to see it adjusted. However, I’ll gladly take Ronaldo and the Portuguese and the draw. They’re the favorite to win outright, and with all their scoring options I’ll go with Portugal on the road. Confidence Meter: 6 1/2 (out of 10)

2:30- Switzerland win: The Swiss are playing well and Norway isn’t known for being good on the road. Switzerland’s defense should be able to keep the clean sheet here and I see their offense getting a goal or two to get them the green here. Confidence Meter: 6

5:07- Baltimore OriolesI admit it: I’m picking with my heart. The Orioles are the least likely team to advance but they’ve knocked off the Rangers on the road already and are now trying to eliminate their division-rival Yankees in New York. Picking against the Buck-Truck can be hazardous to your streak’s health. CC Sabathia looked good in game one, but he pitched a lot longer than he needed to and I think the heavy workload will catch up with him and the O’s will find a way to win. Again, I’m picking what I want to happen more than what the pure stats would indicate, but this is what I’ll pick. Confidence Meter: 3

5:08- No run scored in the 1st inning: No run in any given inning is always the statistically more likely outcome. In this series, the Yankees scored in the first in games one and two, but in the last two games the two teams have combined for eight runs in 25 innings. Anything could happen, but odds are favorable for no runs. Confidence Meter: 6

8:05- Central Michigan: The Chippewas host Navy in a matchup of 2-3 teams. CMU lost 50-35 last week on the road and got crushed in their only home outing by then #11 Michigan State. Navy meanwhile needed overtime to dispatch Air Force last week and will look to make it back-to-back wins on the road. Central Michigan is currently a 2.0 point favorite, and I think their offense is more potent than Navy’s and their defense will do enough to get them the win. Confidence Meter: 5

8:37- Washington Nationals: I’ll go with the numbers and the home team in this game 5 although the Cardinals have proven they can definitely overcome the odds and win when they need to. If St. Louis is going to return to the NLCS, they’ll have to get by Nats ace Gio Gonzalez who was able to get the win in game one despite a less than stellar outing. He has been excellent at home recently winning his last four outings at Nationals Park and throwing a five-hit shutout against these same Cardinals. After last night’s walk-off, I think the Nats hitters will relax a bit and break out enough against Adam Wainwright who they beat in game one to move on to face San Francisco. Picks either way in this one are acceptable; missing this game is not. It’s sure to be a great one. Confidence Meter: 4
