Streak for the Cash Picks and Analysis, October 15

Chris Carpenter (29) heads to the hill in San Francisco and I’ll take him and the Cards as my most confident pick of the day in ESPN’s Streak for the Cash. Photo by Brad Mills-US PRESSWIRE

After a frenetically-paced weekend, things slow down a bit in the sports world on this Monday. In Streak for the Cash, there’s only seven matchups on the board. If you’re on a decent streak, you may want to sit this day out since there’s no super-obvious options. The super seven include Russian Division I soccer, Kontinental Hockey League, NLCS game 2, and Monday Night Football.

My picks are finally coming around after a dismal start to the month. I went 7 for 10 yesterday and built my current streak to six. Check my stats at the bottom of the page for more and visit our leagues and groups page for info on how to join our Fantasy CPR group.

Here’s my favorite picks of the day:

Picks for 10/15

9:00- Metallburg-Kuzbass win or Draw: Both these teams are struggling in their first season in the second tier of Russian soccer. Neither one is a great pick, but taking the home team getting the draw is always a good way to go when neither team is clearly better than the other. Confidence Meter: 2

11:30- 5 or fewer: In another close prop, AK Bars takes on Slovan in the KHL. So far this month only one of five Slovan games and three of five AK Bars games have gone over. What makes me lean under is that Slovan Bratislava has only scored 17 and allowed 17 goals in 7 road games. Confidence Meter: 3

8:11- St. Louis Cardinals: The Cards already stole game one in San Francisco keeping the Giants winless in the postseason at home. Now they get to send Chris Carpenter, their big-game ace, to the hill to face Ryan Vogelsong who has been good at home all year but scuffled a bit through September finishing with a 2-2 record and a 6.46 ERA. In August, it wasn’t much better as he finished with a 6.32 ERA and a 4-2 record. In his one start against St. Louis, he did shut them out for seven innings in St. Louis to pick up the win. Chris Carpenter also has a good track record against his opponent ac Carpenter is 4-1 with a 3.57 ERA against San Francisco an has won both his previous career starts at AT&T Park. I expect a pitchers duel in this one.  Since the pressure will again be on the Giants and they’re hitting just .165 at home in the playoffs, I think the Cardinals magical postseason part II continues and they get a 2-0 lead going home. Confidence Meter: 5

8:40-San Diego Chargers: Click here for all my NFL picks. You’ll find the Monday Night game all the way at the bottom. Confidence Meter: 3
