Today’s Streak for the Cash board has plenty of variety with picks from around the globe once again as soccer in Spain and Poland gets us started before finishing tonight with a pair of MLB Postseason games, game two of the WNBA Finals, and some MLS action.

The Tigers got my streak to 8 yesterday but were the only one of my four picks that I got right leaving me sub-.500 still after a rough start to the month. Here’s today’s picks:

Picks for 10/17

11:00- Poland win or draw: Poland is hosting England who are the ever-so-slight favorites to win. However, I think at home Poland and their main man Lewandowski will be able to play to at least a draw. England and English teams tend to get over-picked on Streak so don’t just blindly follow the crowd on this one. Confidence Meter: (out of 10)

3:00- Sporting Gijon win: Both teams are near the bottom of the Segunda division table but Mirandes is just 1-2-6 so far this season. Sporting Gijon isn’t much better but they are at home for this one, so I’ll take them to pull out the win but not with much confidence. Confidence Meter: 2

4:07- San Francisco Giants: The Giants haven’t lost yet on the road these playoffs. Kyle Lohse is good at home, I know, but that hasn’t mattered to San Francisco in any of the games they’ve won away from AT&T Park. Matt Cain will be looking to bounce back and get a win after a pair of decent-but-not-spectacular NLDS outings. I’m just not a Lohse believer, and I think the G-men can seize back homefield as the Cardinals lineup (outside of Beltran) continues to struggle. Confidence Meter: 4

8:06- Tamika Catchings or tie: Catchings had a higher points per game average during the regular season (17.4-16.4) and scored more points in game one (20-14). Maya Moore is an dynamic talent who can go off at any time, but the Lynx are deep and don’t need her to score as much as the Fever need Catchings. With the tie, Catching seems to be the pick here. Confidence Meter: 6

8:07- New York Yankees: CC will try to do his best Verlander impersonation as the Yankees fight off elimination. Another solid Tigers starting pitcher, Max Scherzer will go for Detroit, but I think the Yankees will find a way to piece together enough offense to extend this to a game 5. I’ll be cheering for Detroit, but I’d take New York if I had to pick this game. Confidence Meter: 5

10:15- Real Salt Lake win or draw: Seattle is really good at home (10-1-4) although but they did lose to San Jose two home games ago. Another of their home losses were to Real Salt Late who also played Seattle to a draw in their other meeting. RSL has been playing extremely well lately winning their last four outright (including three road games) and losing only one of their last eight overall. I’ll take the draw and recent form even over the Seattle home field advantage. Confidence Meter: 3

Yesterday’s Results: 1-3

Overall Record: 49-54

My Entry: 28-27

Current Streak: W8
