Streak for the Cash Picks and Analysis, October 18

Can the Arizona State Sun Devils keep up with Oregon’s offense tonight in the desert? I don’t think so and will take the Ducks by 10+. Photo by Scott Olmos-US PRESSWIRE

As long as the baseball games fit in around the rain today, there’s five different sports and six different leagues featured on today’s Streak for the Cash board. There’s picks from the PGA Fall Series, Kontinental Hockey Leauge, both Championship Series in the MLB, the NFL, College football, and even the NBA Preseason.  There’s plenty of options to pick from, and here’s the ones I like the most.

Picks for 10/18

8:05- Ben Crane or tie: Crane is the defending champ and is getting the tie. Zach Johnson has had a better season so far this year, but he did miss the cut here last year. Unless there’s a clear-cut differential, it’s always best to take the tie in nine-hole props. Confidence Meter: (out of 10)

11:45- 5 Goals or Less: In their last six games, St. Petersburg would have been over this line five times while Novosibirsk would have been under five times out of their last six. Overall Petersburg is over 5 in 73% of their games while Novosibirsk is over 5 in just 23%. This should be a great game with both teams near the top of their groups. Since all but one of their last 12 head-to-head games have had 5 goals or less, I’ll take that trend to continue in this one. Condfidence Meter: 4

4:00- New York Yankees: I picked them yesterday so I’ll go with them again today although I’ll be cheering against them as hard as I can. Confidence Meter: 5

8:00- Brooklyn Nets: It’s the preseason. I’d probably stay away from this one entirely, but if you’re going to make a pick take the home team Brooklyn Nets as they host the veteran Celtics. Boston will probably be the better team long term, but this is just an exhibition and they know that. Confidence Meter: 4

Oct 14, 2012; San Francisco, CA, USA; San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Tim Lincecum (55) pitches during the fifth inning of game one of the 2012 NLCS against the St. Louis Cardinals at AT

8:07- San Francisco Giants: I think this series goes the distance and that the Giants get this one behind Tim Lincecum who seemingly rediscovered his Cy Young form as he’s pitched 8.1 one-run innings so far this postseason. He’ll be opposed by Adam Wainwright who had mixed results in his two outings in the NLDS. I think Lincecum gets the job done against a Cardinals lineup that may have to play without an injured Carlos Beltran. Confidence Meter: 5

8:30- Seahawks win or lose by single-digits: I definitely think San Francisco will bounce back and get the win at home as they host Seattle on a short week. The thing that makes this pick tricky is whether they’ll win by 10 or not. The Seahawks have risen to the occasion against the Packers and Patriots and I think they’ll keep this one relatively close. Their pair of road losses have been by 4 and 6, and I think that Russell Wilson can do enough to keep this close. Last year, they lost by 16 in San Francisco week one and by two at home week 16. I’m not overly confident since I think it’s more of a “cover” than an upset coming here. Confidence Meter: 3

9:02-Oregon wins by double-digits: In a great primetime Pac-12 game the #3 ranked Ducks head to the desert to take on Arizona State. There should be plenty of points scored in this one as both teams average over 40 points per game. Oregon hasn’t let anyone within 15 yet this year although this will be just their second road game. Their defense is underrated and  shut down Arizona (another high-powered offense) in Eugene earlier this year. Arizona State’s defense is relatively untested and I don’t think they’ll be able to slow the Ducks enough as Chip Kelly’s blur offense will carry Oregon to a 7-0 start by 10 or more. Confidence Meter: 7
