Streak for the Cash Picks and Analysis, October 23

Last season, North Carolina Tar Heels forward Ben Speas (17) celebratee along with midfielder Mikey Lopez (5) after Speas made a point against the UNC Charlotte 49ers during the NCAA Soccer Championship at Regions Park. The Tar Heels defeated the 49ers 1-0 to win the championship. Mandatory Credit: Marvin Gentry-US PRESSWIRE

It’s a soccer-studded Tuesday on ESPN’s Streak for the Cash as UEFA Champions League takes center stage for the afternoon with NCAA soccer tonight along with some American football in what should be an  entertaining matchup from the Sun Belt.

Yesterday I started with two losses and then turned things around with three straight picks to end the day. Hopefully today I can keep the green flowing throughout the day. Here’s my favorite picks:

Picks for 10/23

8:00- 4 goals or fewer: There’s another over/under to start things on from the Kontinental Hockey League. All the numbers point to either four or five goals in this one making it a virtual coin-flip pick. I’ll take the under since Sibir Novosibirsk has been under in their last two games and 14 out of 19 home games. Confidence Meter: (out of 10)

2:45- Chelsea win or draw: Chelsea is playing well domestically and has had a good recent run in international competition as well. Shakhtar is the favorite and has a huge home field advantage so if they were getting the draw, I’d definitely take them. It’s not a lock (although 99.6% of streakers are on at time or writing), but I do think Chelsea is the right pick. Confidence Meter: 6

7:00- North Carolina by 2 goals: In my favorite pick of the day, I’ll take the Heels and give a goal. UNC has only given up four goals in their last 15 matches. Campbell won’t be able to score and despite a good record in the Big South won’t be able to keep UNC from getting a couple goals. Confidence Meter: 7

8:00- LA-Lafayette: UL Lafayette are four point favorites  as they host the Red Wolves of Arkansas State. Lafayette was beaten on the road last Tuesday as they visited North Texas, but is 3-0 at home scoring over 40 each time while allowing 20 or fewer points to their opponents (Lamar, FIU, and Tulane). Arkansas State is coming off back-to-back wins at FIU and against South Alabama but have lost to Oregon, Nebraska, and Western Kentucky already this season. Both teams are 2-1 in the Sun Belt and trying to stay just behind ULM who is the only unbeaten team in conference. Confidence Meter: 5

8:06- 29 points or more: Both these teams can put up points in a hurry, but struggle to stop opponents. Arkansas St. allows almost 30 points a game while averaging just over 30 and ULL averages 35 while allowing 25. It’ll be close, but I think both teams will open it up early and this could turn into a very entertaining shootout. Confidence Meter: 7
