Friday’s have become the slowest day of the week on the national sports scene and that fact is reflected in the only eight picks on the Steak for the Cash board for today. It doesn’t help that the World Series is traveling today leaving mostly NBA Preseason action to focus on along with some early tennis and soccer and a Big East primetime game on ESPN.
Here’s the picks I’m liking on a relaxingly light Friday:
Picks for 10/26
10:10- 7 games or more: This is a prop for how many games Sharapova will lose to Aussie Samantha Stosur. In their past meetings, Sharapova is 10-2 but Stosur has actually pulled out two of the past three including last year’s meeting in Istanbul (same tournament). The farther back you go, the more the results favor Sharapova, but Stosur will be playing her first match in the WTA Championships while Sharapova is already on her third and fatigue may be a factor.
2:45- St Etienne win: St Etienne doesn’t allow goals very often and Stade Rennes hasn’t really played well on the road. It’s French soccer, so don’t put anything long on it, but I do think this is the pick if you’re red or W1. Confidence Meter: 3
8:05- Louisville: The Keg of Nails is on the line in this one, in a rivalry that spans 52 games. This would have been a much tougher pick and a better matchup if Cincinnati didn’t get tripped up last week by Toledo, but the dream of a perfect season is alive for Louisville behind a great year from QB Teddy Bridgewater. Cincinnati has taken the last four meetings, but the Cardinals are at home and are 3.5 point favorites behind their two-headed running attack led by Senorise Perry and Jeremy Wright. Don’t think it’s a slam-dunk just becuase Louisville is ranked, but I do think they are the right pick here and the best pick on a slow day. Confidence Meter: 5
10:05- Denver Nuggets: I think the Nuggets have the better team but it’s preseason so it’s always hard to know who will play or not play. Both teams are 3-3 in preseason play so far. Ty Lawson may sit this one out giving Andre Miller some extra run-time with the first team. It’s preseason so it’s incredibly unpredictable but that’s all that’s on the board tonight. Confidence Meter: 2
Yesterday’s Results: 3-2
Overall Record: 84-77
My Entry: 39-34
Current Streak: L1
