It’s the start of a new month which means everyone’s back to zero in ESPN’s Streak for the cash mini-game. Once again I’ll be making my picks and giving a brief analysis each day on FantasyCPR so come back each day throughout the month and drop a bookmark or subscribe to our RSS or Twitter feed for daily picks. The month opens with 13 picks on the board starting with some BNP Paribas Masters tennis. Later in the afternoon there’s Spanish and Italian soccer before we come back stateside for some college football, NFL, NBA, and MLS options tonight. I won’t give you every pick, just the ones I like the most as we kick off a new month looking for some green.
Streak Picks for 11/1
9:10- 5 games or more: This is a prop pick on how many games Andy Murray will lost to Jerzy Janowicz. The two have never met so there’s no history to go on here. Jerzy Janowicz has won two games to get here including knocking off Marin Cilic in straight sets. The over/under on most betting sites favors the over and I think Janowicz will get 5 or 6 games in this one. Confidence Meter: 3 (out of 10)
12:00- Sam Querrey: Don’t follow just the ranking here like most people are as of when this is being written. Querrey just knocked off Novak Djokavic and is playing extremely well. He beat Raonic in their only previous match with happened on grass at Wimbledon. This match is on an indoor hard surface, but I still think Querrey is more likely to get this win as he keeps his roll going. Confidence Meter: 5
2:00- Sporting Gigon win: Osasuna is 1-2-6 in their first nine La Liga games. Sporting is 4-3-1 overall but has gone 3-1-0 in their four home games. At home, I think Sporting will take care of business and get the win in this Copa del Rey match. Confidence Meter: 4
6:04- Touchdown: It’s a prop pick which tends to be a toss-up, but early in the month and with a defense as questionable as Eastern Michigan’s, I think this is a pretty solid pick for some quick green. Confidence Meter: 5
7:35- Miami (FL): This is such an even match it’s hard to call. The line is just 1 1/2 so it virutally is a “pick’em” game. I’ll go with the Hurricans at home to break their three game losing streak. Their losses this year have been to quality opponents-Notre Dame, K-State, Florida State, and (to a lesser extent) North Carolina. They actually kept their last two games close at home against NC and Florida State who are both better teams than Va-Tech. The Hokies are also 4-4 but their losses are to Cincinnati, Pitt, UNC, and Clemson. Both schools have beaten Georgia Tech in overtime and lost to UNC. It’s a close match so I’ll take the home team but with only a little confidence. Confidence Meter: 3
8:30- Chargers win by double digits: This is San Diego’s last chance with me, and this pick is more about Kansas City than San Diego. The Chiefs have been horrible especially on the road where they’ve lost by 28 to Tampa Bay and 18 to Buffalo. They did get their lone win on the road in New Orleans, but San Diego’s defense won’t let Jamaal Charles run wild like the Saints did. Even giving them nine points KC would only be 2-5. The Chargers beat them by 17 in week four and they’re the home team on a short week which is always an advantage. Norv’s offense died in the Cleveland rain, but I think they’ll bounce back at home enough to beat the woeful Chiefs. Confidence Meter: 7
9:40- Oklahoma City Thunder: The Thunder open their season without the bearded one (James Harden) as they head to San Antonio to face the Spurs. San Antonio is playing its second game in as many nights and Durant and Westbrook will be charged up to show people they’ll survive the trade. I like the Thunder to get the win even on the road in this one. Confidence Meter: 6
I’ll post results here once the month is underway.
