ESPN Streak for the Cash Picks and Help, November 9

Last year the Michigan State Spartans faced the North Carolina Tar Heels in the Carrier Classic and they walked away with a great experience but no win. This year they’ll take on Connecticut in the Armed Forces Classic in Germany and their experience and athleticism should be able to get them past the Huskies. College Basketball tips off this afternoon and with plenty of basketball coming tonight, there’s plenty of roundball options if you’re ready to hit the hardwood in Streak for the Cash. Don’t worry though, today’s 13 picks on the board are far from one-dimensional. There’s also picks from the PGA, Bundesliga soccer, ATP World Tour Finals tennis, and NCAA College Football. Here’s the one’s I like the most today:

Streak picks for 11/9

2:50- 10 games or more: This prop is for the match between Andy Murray and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. The question is how many games will Murray lose. In their previous seven matchups Tsonga has won once and taken a set from the Scot three other times. Their last two meetings have got to Murray but not in straight sets. Even if Murray does win in straight sets, it’s still possible that this goes over if it’s 6-5, 6-5 or there’s a tiebreak involved. To move on in this convoluted round robin format, Murray needs a straight-set win, but recent history would indicate that Tsonga could make it difficult for him. Confidence Meter: (out of 10)

5:35- Michigan State wins by double digits: Michigan State is ranked #14 and will face UCONN in this season-opener taking place in Ramstein Air Force Base in Germany. Coach Tom Izzo is fired up about his team’s work ethic and potential for the coming season. The Huskies on the other hand will be without retired coach Jim Calhoun and in my opinion are if for a long season. It’s hard to know for sure since we haven’t seen these teams play yet, but I think the Spartans win by 15-20. Confidence Meter: 6

7:00- Milwaukee Bucks: The Bucks have started the season 2-1 with wins over Boston and Cleveland to start the season before falling to Memphis their last time out on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Washington has started 0-3 dropping a pair to Boston  after opening with a loss at Cleveland. The Bucks backcourt of Brandon Jennings and Monta Ellis will probably be too much for the Wizards to handle without John Wall. They may be without Jordan Crawford as well who is day-to-day after spraining his ankle Saturday. Milwaukee is favored by 3. Confidence Meter: 7

8:02- Pittsburgh Panthers: In the Big East football game tonight Pitt visits UCONN giving Husky haters their second chance to pick against UCONN in the same day. I’m not a hater, but I think Pitt is the better team in this one. Connecticut has lost four games in a row and is winless in the Big East. They forced overtime with Temple, but have been beate soundly in their other games. Pitt meanwhile took Notre Dame to triple-overtime before losing last week and beat Temple by 30 the week before. Pitt isn’t going to a bowl, but they have more upside than a UCONN that currently is in the cellar of the Big East. Confidence Meter: 6

8:35- Kentucky by 15+: UK won’t be as good as they were last year, but they’ll still be a really good team while Maryland is big, but not athletic enough to run with the young ‘Cats. This game is in Brooklyn so there’s no homecourt advantage but the loss of leading scorer Terrell Stoglin will hurt the Terps in this one especially. Confidence Meter: 4

10:30- Denver Nuggets: Utah upended the Lakers in Salt Lake City in their last game, and if this was at home, the Jazz would again be a solid pick. However, in Denver I think the Nuggets have the advantage coming off of back-to-back wins Monday and Tuesday. Kenneth Faried and Ty Lawson lead a high-octane attack that I think will be too much for the Jazz to keep up with. Utah is more of a grinding team while Denver tends to be a bit more high-flying. It’ll be a study in contrasts and whichever team makes the other play at their tempo will be the one to win. I think that will be Denver at home in this one. (see I did that whole analysis without referring to Denver’s new law which you might have heard about). Confidence Meter: 5
