ESPN Streak for the Cash Picks and Analysis, November 15

Thursday Night Football is just one of the 15 picks to choose from on this Thursday the 15th in ESPN’s Streak for the Cash game. The early focus is on college basketball with the many tip-off tournaments in full gear then tonight there’s  more college hoops mixed in with ACC college football and the Thursday night NBA features as well as the NFL game in Buffalo.

Yesterday didn’t start well for our picks with Russia giving up the tying goal three minutes into stoppage time costing me the early green. In the second pick of the day, Switzerland waited even longer scoring five minutes into stoppage time to defeat Tunisia and give me my second loss of the day. Overall, things got a little better from there and I was able to finish 3-4 overall. Hopefully today, I get some better luck at the finish and can find the green with more of my picks. Here’s my favorite picks of the day:

 Streak Picks for 11/15

10:30- Oklahoma State Cowboys: The first game of the day is from Puerto Rico where the Cowboys will take on the Akron Zips. Both teams return about 65% percent of their minutes from last year. Akron was bounced last season in the first round of the NIT while OSU  finished 15-18 and wasn’t invited to any of the postseason tournaments. Akron already dropped a game this season as they lost in OT to Coastal Carolina in their opener. It’s hard to be confident since we haven’t seen these teams play this year enough to get a good gauge on them but I think OSU from a stronger conference and off a solid opener against UC Davis should be able to get the green. They are 2.5 point favorites from the sites I checked. Confidence Meter: (out of 10)

12:30- Tennessee by double-digits: Unlike the first two teams, these teams have quite a history against each other and have met eight times since the campuses are only about 115 miles apart. Tennessee has won all eight meetings and should be able to get past a Bulldogs team in the first round here as well. The tricky question is whether they’ll do it by 10 or more or not. The Vols won by just four in their last meeting but had won the previous games by double digits. Tennessee could have a decent season but UNCA might struggle to three-peat in the Big South this year. I think this prop is a nail-biter, but that the Vols get the win by 11 or 12. Confidence Meter: 4

3:05- Baylor by 15+: Baylor and Boston College meat in the first round of the Charleston Classic. BC’s starting lineup is all freshman and sophomores, they’ve been picked to finish dead last in the ACC, and the Golden Eagles have lost six in a row to ranked teams at neutral sites. Baylor is currently at #15 and has looked solid in cruising to two wins by 20+ points. This could eastily make it three. Confidence Meter: 6

5:05- NC State by 15+: NC State is a top team and the preseason pick to take the ACC. They looked the part of a top ten team dispatching Miami (Ohio) easily 97-59. Penn State also won their opener and will rely heavily on Tim Frazier, the Big Ten’s returning leader in points and assists. The Wolfpack have the depth and athleticism to stretch the floor though on Penn State and should be able to win easily if they can once again use the fast break as their key advantage as they did in their opener. Confidence Meter: 5

7:32- North Carolina: The Heels football program has had a troubling tendency to under-perform on the big stage, but I think they’ll get the win tonight against Virginia. UNC has relied heavily on star Sophomore Giovani Bernard who has had multiple touchdowns in his last four games. UNC is looking to bounce back from a tough loss Saturday to Georgia Tech 68-50 giving them two losses in their last three games. The Cavaliers have turned things around a bit the last two weeks getting wins against Miami and at NC State after losing six in a row in the middle of the season. Duke destroyed Virginia while NC played them very close while both teams have wins over Miami and NC State and losses to Georgia Tech and Wake Forest. It should be a close competetive game, but I think UNC has the talent to get the win and will get a nice win as they continue their turn around under new Head Coach Larry Fedora. Confidence Meter: 5

8:00- Brooklyn Nets: The Nets get the Celtics at the right time on the second half of a back-to-back and possibly without Rajon Rondo. Confidence Meter: 4

8:30- San Antonio Spurs: Awesome matchup as the undefeated Knicks head to San Antonio, and I think the Spurs give them their first loss of the season taking down the last undefeated team. The Knicks have build their 5-0 record on ridiculously hot shooting which has to cool down sometime and the Spurs hard defense should force them to cool off. Confidence Meter: 3

8:30- Miami Dolphins: Both these AFC East teams have been bi-polar at times this season. Miami looked horrible at home last week getting rolled over by Tennessee but prior to that had been within a FG in every game since the opener including winning at the Jets and Bengals and stomping the Raiders and Rams at home. The Bills meanwhile have lost five of their last si including close games and blowouts. The fact that makes me go Miami here though is the only home win the Bills have came all the way back in week 2 against the Chiefs. They dropped their last home game to the Titans. The Dolphins are among the best in the league at stopping the run while the Bills are the worst allowing 163.7 yards on the ground per game. Confidence Meter: 6
