ESPN Streak for the Cash Picks and Analysis-November 16

Rudy Gay and the Grizzlies will look to hand the Knicks their first loss of the season tonight in Memphis. They’re one of my picks today in ESPN’s Streak for the Cash. Photo by Mark D. Smith-US PRESSWIRE

It’s another packed day of picking on the Streak for the Cash board with 14 picks from across the sports world. Most of the picks today are basketball with both college and the NBA in full swing across the country. There’s a couple college football games tonight on the ESPN family of networks as well if you’d rather pick and watch FAU versus FIU or Hawaii visiting Air Force.

Here’s the picks I like the most today with just a quick analysis of why I’m picking that way this Friday.

11/16 Streak Picks

10:30- Tennessee Volunteers: It’ll be an all-Orange matchup as the Vols clash with the Cowboys of Oklahoma State in the semifinals of the Puerto Rico Tip-Off tournament. OSU advanced to this stage in the tournament after edging Akron yesterday in OT. Tennessee had an easier time of things dispatching UNC-Ashville 75-65. Tennessee is the more talented team but they’ve struggled with consistency at times and Oklahoma State will be their toughest test of the young season. The Cowboys have had their own issues with consistency especially on the offensive end. I think the Vols have a clear advantage in the frontcourt with Jarnell Stokes and Jeronne Maymon and will get the win here. Confidence Meter: (out of 10)

Nov 15, 2012; Charleston, SC, USA; Colorado Buffaloes guard Sabatino Chen (23) goes in for the layup during the second half of Game 1 of the Charleston Classic against the Dayton Flyers at TD Arena. Buffaloes won 67-57. Mandatory Credit: Joshua S. Kelly-US PRESSWIRE

12:35- Colorado wins by Single Digit loss: Baylor won yesterday against BC by 10 and move on to face Colorado who cruised past Dayton by 10 as well after a big second half run. I do think Baylor probably gets the win here but Colorado is a scrappy team that should be able to hang with the Bears. Baylor is right now favored by 8, but Colorado will be out to avenge their loss in last year’s tournament in the third round after the Buffs upset UNLV in their first game. It’s a new year and these are new teams and I think Colorado can at least hang right with and possibly even upset Baylor. Confidence Meter: 3

2:45- Boston College Eagles: Both teams lost by 10 in the last rounds to Baylor and Colorado (see above), but BC’s first two games have been impressive for a team picked to finish last in the ACC and starting all freshman and sophomores. BC’s Ryan Anderson has emerged as the Eagles go-to on offense scoring 29 and 25 in their opening two games. I think he’ll lead them past Dayton in this one

5:05- NC State Winning Margin: The #6-ranked Wolfpack have won their first two games by 28 and 17. They’ll face their toughest test of the season against UMass who is 2-0 after two close games. Massachusetts won by two against Providence last night and by three against Harvard in their opener. In this prop it’s the Wolfpack margin of victory against the UMass FT made. The Minutemen have made 10 and nine free throws so it almost comes down to a double-digit pick. NC State’s depth and athleticism should again prevail as they use the fast break to get past UMass. Confidence Meter: 6

7:00- Dallas Mavericks: Dallas is actually the underdog in this one on the road, but Indiana has been struggling dropping five of their last six on their way to a 3-6 record with wins over only lowly Toronto, Washington, and Sacramento (which took overtime). Dallas has also struggled a bit dropping three of their last four but I expect Darren Collison to be especially fired up to face his former team as he leads Dallas into Indy. Confidence Meter: 4

7:08- Philadelphia 76ers: The Sixers and Jazz meet in a contrast of styles in Phily. Without Andrew Bynum, the Sixers are reliant on a smaller lineup while the Jazz tend to play big with Paul Millsap and Al Jefferson up front. The reason I’m going Phily is the Jazz struggles on the road (1-5, with their only win coming in 3 OT at Toronto), and the Sixers are usually strong at home at the Wells Fargo Center. Confidence Meter: 5

8:00- Florida Atlantic: FAU and FIU are a combined 5-15 so don’t expect great football here although it may be a competitive game. FAU is actually 2-1 at home and has won two of their last three games. FIU, on the other hand, had lost seven in a row before beating South Alabama last week for their first win since September 8. The Owls of Florida Atlantic are playing better and ave playing at home so I’ll take them for the win. Confidence Meter: 4

9:35- Memphis Grizzlies: The Knicks had a great comeback last night in San Antonio and in the second-half of their back-to-back have to take on the red hot Grizzlies. Memphis is 6-1 and is especially good when they’re at home at the FedEx Forum. In the Grizz last two games they’ve knocked off the Thunder and the Heat and haven’t lost since their season opener in LA against the Clippers back on October 31. Confidence Meter:  7

10:00-Houston Rockets: The Rockets look to avenge their overtime loss a week ago Saturday as they head to Portland to take on the Blazers. Since Portland handed the Rockets their first loss, they’re only 1-four including three consecutive losses at the Rose Garden. Houston should be able to get the win here as long as they get solid games from James Harden and Jeremy Lin doesn’t start shooting air balls. Confidence Meter: 5
