ESPN Streak for the Cash Picks and Analysis-December 8

Navy running back Marcus Thomas (26) will lead the Midshipmen against their rival Army in the top-billed FBS college football game today. There’s plenty of Streak for the Cash action though; check our picks below. Photo by Mike Carter-USA TODAY Sports

Even with only a little FBS college football, there’s plenty of Streak for the Cash action on this Saturday. There’s 23 picks on the board from a nice blend of college basketball, the NBA, EPL soccer, MMA, Boxing, and the FCS college football playoffs. Yesterday I split my picks down the middle going 4-4, so hopefully today I can get things headed in the right direction with these picks:

Picks for 12/8

10:00- Chelsea: The Blues have made a change at Manager which has paid dividends so far. Sunderland is in the bottom four in the table and have won just two of their last 22 EPL games. A draw is definitely a possibility but Chelsea looked good in their last game pummeling FC Nordsjaelland 6-1 in the Champions League. Confidence Meter: (out of 10)

12:03- Any Other Result: This is basically Arkansas +15 at Michigan. The Wolverines are off to a great start and can pie on the points. They’ve won their last two by 22 and 18 over Western Michigan and Bradley. Arkansas, however, will be a team that can run with Michigan as the Razorbacks are 12th in the nation in scoring averaging 82.1 points per game. They beat a previously 6-1 Oklahoma team their last time out and lost to then-#6 Syracuse by just nine last week. The only was the ‘Hogs don’t keep this within 15 is if they go cold from the field like they did against Arizona State earlier this year, but I don’t think that’s going to happen. A backdoor cover is also a strong possibility against a Michigan team that struggles to close out games. Confidence Meter: 3

12:05-Georgia Southern : If  you can get to a TV for this one, it’ll be worth a look at two of the best offenses in FCS in the country. Georgia Southern knocked off Old Dominion last year 55-48 and this year’s game should be every bit as exciting. Georgia Southern runs the triple-option and will try to run the Monarchs over behind QB Jerick McKinnon and Dominique Swope. Old Dominion meanwhile is a spread offense that lead the FCS in scoring while being extremely pass-heavy. The game could go either way, but either way its sure to be entertaining. Based on their playoff experience (Six FCS Championships, 19 playoffs made) I’ll go with the Eagles even though they have to go on the road for this one. Confidence Meter: 3

2:45- Fiorentina win/draw: Fiornetina finished every match in Serie A with a win or a draw since September going 6-3-0 in their last nine. Their only losses on the year were to Inter and Napoli who are ahead of them in the table which AS Roma is not. Confidence Meter: 5

3:02- Any Other Result: The #1 ranked team in the FCS playoffs, North Dakota State, welcomes Wofford to the FargoDome. Both teams are solid on defense, and ND State has played its share of close games this season. I expect the defending champions Bison to move on, but I’ll take Wofford and the 15 points they get in this prop since these playoff games always seem to be close. Confidence Meter: 4

3:05- Navy by Double Digits: Army was just 2-9 this season as they come into their annual rivalry showdown with Navy. Army’s only wins came over Boston College and Air Force and they lost by 10 or more seven times. Navy isn’t built to blow people out with their run-based offense but they did win four games this season by ten or more and will be extra-motivated by the recent tragedy involving their teammate Rafi Motalvo (Click here for video story)

3:15- Duke by Double Digits: Duke will be out to avenge their loss to the Owls last year. Temple comes in undefeated but hasn’t played much competition to this point in their season. Duke, on the other hand,  has already played and beaten three teams in the top five. They’ve won every game except those three by 10 or more and will be extra motivated to knock off the Owls as they meet in East Rutherford. Confidence Meter: 6

5:15- UCLA: Both the Bruins and the Longhorns are off to disappointing starts, but UCLA’s talent should be able to carry them past a Texas team that has lost to D-II Chaminade, USC, and Georgetown. Ben Howland needs to get the most out of his talented recruits while Texas is playing hard but doesn’t have much offensive firepower. While I think they’ll underachieve all year, I think the Bruins get this win in Houston. Confidence Meter: 4

7:30- Detroit Pistons: The Cavs will most likely be without Dion Waiters as well as the still-recovering Kyrie Irving. Cleveland has dropped four in a row while the Pistons are showing signs of improvement. I’m a big fan of Andre Drummond and Greg Monroe down low and Detroit hung right with Chicago last night. I would be very confident of this pick in Detroit, but the Pistons are just 1-9 on the road this year. Confidence Meter: 6

8:00- Houston Rockets: The Rockets and Mavericks are both hovering around the .500 mark as they face off in Houston tonight. Houston has been able to find success at home though going 7-3 and winning their last six in a row. The Mavs were able to avoid a disastrous trip by beating the Suns in Phoenix but has lost their previous three road games. Dallas is 5-9 in their last 14 while Houston has been playing better winning five of their last seven. Confidence Meter: 7

10:03- Illinois wins or single digit loss: In a great nightcap, the unbeaten Illini visit the also unbeaten Gonzaga Bulldogs. The Zags are -11.5 but haven’t covered their last two games. The Illini have actually compiled 4-1 mark against the spread when facing West Coast Conference opponents. Obviously, Illinois hasn’t lost by double-digits since they haven’t lost at all. Meanwhile, Gonzaga has won six of their nine games by double-digits.. I think this one will be really close and could even be decided by a possession or two. Confidence Meter: 3
