Best December 12 Sports Picks-ESPN Streak for the Cash

Boston Celtics guard Jason Terry faces his former-team the Dallas Mavericks in the ESPN-featured game in the NBA tonight. Boston has been rolling at home, and JET will be extra fueled up for tonights matchup. They are one of my picks of the day you can find below. Photo by Jeff Hanisch-USA TODAY Sports

This Wednesday in ESPN Streak for the Cash there’s 11 picks on the board with a ton of NBA action tonight and some international soccer to get things started. If you’re playing Yahoo’s Sports IQ, challenge us at FantasyCPR at yahoo.com (as an email). Here’s the picks I like the most today:

Streak Picks 12/12/12

11:30- Parma win: This Italian Soccer match is from the Coppa Italia round of 16. Parma is at home as they host Catania. Catania actually is ahead of Parma in the Serie A table, but have struggled on the road going just 1-2-6. In contrast, Parma is 4-3-0 at home. The two sides met earlier this season on October 7 and Catania won 2-0, but I think at home Parma will be able to get the green. Giving the draw makes this a tough pick though, so stay away unless you start the day in the red. Confidence Meter: 2.5

2:45- Swansea City win: In the Capitol One Cup Quarterfinals, Swansea hosts Middlesbrough at Liberty Stadium in the better of the two afternoon picks. Swansea has been playing well and had won or drawn seven in a row before losing a tight one to Norwich City in their last EPL match. During that span they’ve dispatched Arsenal and Liverpool while drawing Chelsea. Provided they play their starters they should be able to get the win over Middlesboro who are third the the Championship League (second-tier of English Soccer), but don’t totally discount Middlesbrough since they did go on the road and knock off EPL-foe Sunderland to get to this level. Confidence Meter: 4

7:05- Atlanta Hawks: The Magic will be grateful to be home after a rough West Coast trip which they salvaged with a win in Phoenix on Sunday night. The Hawks had won three in a row before losing in Miami Monday. The Magic play hard but don’t have the talent of Atlanta who are 12-6 (8-2 in their last 10) as opposed to Orlando’s 8-12 (5-5 in last 10). Confidence Meter: 5

7:30- Philadelphia 76ers: The Bulls are playing their second game in as many days as they head to Philly to take on the Sixers. Jrue Holiday has emerged as a star so far this year and the last few games has been joined by an effective Evan Turner. If Turner and Holiday can be effective, Philly could be back in the second round of the playoffs against this year. The Bulls are still waiting for their backcourt to get healthy and will again be without Richard Hamilton and Derrick Rose. With such a huge backcourt advantage and more rested at home, I feel pretty comfortable taking the 76ers. Confidence Meter: 7

8:05-Minnesota Timberwolves: The Wolves host the Nuggets and may have Ricky Rubio back for his first game of the season. Either way, Denver has struggled on the road (6-10) and had to expend lots of energy to come-from-behind last night in Detroit. With or without Rubio, I think Minnesota gets the W. Confidence Meter: without Rubio. if he comes back.

8:10- Boston Celtics winning Margin or Tie: The Celtics are the best pick of the night but may be the only pick you can get to if you go with them. The Mavs are a mess away from Dallas going just 4-7 on the road while the C’s are a contrasting 7-4 at home. Jason Terry has been trashing his old team (not surprisingly) and will be fired up as he helps Boston go for their fourth straight home win. The prop here is C’s winning margin against the Mavs three-pointers. Dallas averages fright around eight threes a game but Boston’s D should hold them to under that.  I think Boston can win by 10 and hold Dallas to 5 or 6 three-pointers. Confidence Meter: 7.5

10:45- San Antonio Spurs: The Spurs head to Salt Lake City where the Jazz are always tough to beat. Utah is 8-1 at home, but the Spurs are off to a nice road start going 11-2 away from home and winning five in a row. It’s not a lock, but the Jazz just don’t have the scoring to keep up with the Spurs as you can see in Utah’s last two losses to Houston and the Clippers (at home). Confidence Meter: 6
