ESPN Streak for the Cash Picks and Analysis, December 13

Carmelo Anthony (7) and the New York Knicks look to continue the woes of the LA Lakers as Kobe and friends visit Madison Square Garden tonight. That’s just one of the picks I like today in ESPN’s Streak for the Cash. Find the rest below. Photo by Anthony Gruppuso-USA TODAY Sports

Thursdays on ESPN’s Streak for the Cash always feature a fairly diverse lineup and today’s 14-matchup board is no exception. There’s matchups from the Greek Cup, Spanish Copa del Ray, and the French Ligue throughout the morning and afternoon for those of you that like the international soccer picks. Tonight’s lineup features picks from college basketball, the NBA, Thursday Night football, and the NCAA Women’s Volleyball Semi-finals. Here’s the picks I like the most today:

Streak Picks 12/13

9:30-Karditsa win draw or lose by 1: If Mo Williams crushed your streak like he did mine with his dagger three-pointer last night, you can shake it off with Karditsa plus a goal as they go on the road to take on Platanias FC in the Greek Cup. Karditsa is fourth in Football League 2 with a 3-3-1 record. Platanias has won just one of their last five games but does play in a league two higher than Karditsa. In the Greek Super League they’re 4-4-6 which puts them in 10th place so far this season. Still, expecting Platanias to win by multiple goals seems to be a stretch. Confidence Meter: (out of 10) stay away unless you’re in the red.

3:00- St. Etiettne win or draw: Bordeaux is the more well-known club, but not the right pick here based on the numbers. St. Etienne is fifth in the table while Bordeaux sits seventh with both teams 16 games in their Ligue 1 season. In seven road games, St. Etienne has only one loss while Bordeaux has only won three of their seven home games outright (with four draws). They’ve drawn their last two Ligue games with Reims and Sochaux who are both in the bottom four of the table while St. Etienne had picked up at least a draw in their last ten before dropping their last match 1-0 to table leading Lyon. Based on recent form and overall record, this is a pretty strong pick. Confidence Meter: 7

7:00- Wichita State: The Shockers have risen to #23 in the rankings after their 9-0 start. To get the green here, they’ll have to beat the Tennessee Volunteers in Knoxville. Wichita State should be up to the test as they have been in their first two true road games at Air Force and VCU. The Vols are off to a rough start at 4-3 and have dropped their last two games at Georgetown and Virginia while failing to reach the 40-point mark in either game. This will probably be a low-scoring game, but I like the Shockers to get the not-so-shocking win here at Tennessee. Confidence Meter: 7

8:15- New York Knicks: The Knicks are 8-0 at home and have won their last two games. The Lakers trip has not gone well as they’ve dropped three in a row and five of six overall.  They’re just 3-8 in their last 11 and their only road wins this season have come at Dallas and at New Orleans. They lost their last game Tuesday in Cleveland hitting what some identified as their lowest point of a low season so far. The Knicks are a team built on draining three’s so there’s always the risk that they’ll just go ice-cold from the field, but aside from a shooting drought or a Kobe-tastic 60+ point game I don’t see how they lose to the struggling Lakers. Confidence Meter: 6

8:30- Cincinnati Bengals: The Bengals head to Philadelphia and we get a straight up pick despite the  record disparity of  three wins. The Eagles won last week in Tampa and it wouldn’t shock me to see them get the win at home if Bryce Brown and Nick Foles can step up. I don’t think it’s likely that they’ll be able to stop Andy Dalton though, so I’ll still take the Bengals straight up for the win. It’s definitely not a lock, but the Eagles have found lots of ways to lose on the big stage this season. Confidence Meter: 3

9:05- Penn State Nittany Lions: Penn State is a heavy favorite (-230) and looks like they should be able to bring home another Championship. They have been the team to beat all year but continue to rise to the challenge. Confidence Meter: 7

10:50- San Antonio Spurs: The Spurs lost last night on a buzzer-beater from Mo Williams and should be geared up to get back in the win column as they head to the Rose Garden. Portland is struggling having lost six of their last nine with wins only over Cleveland, Charlotte, and Toronto. San Antonio beat them a month ago in Portlans in a close 112-109 game but in this one the Blazers could be without Wesley Matthews and Nicolas Batum while the Spurs will have Tony Parker who didn’t play in their first meeting. The fact that San Antonio played last night doesn’t scare me as much since they’ve been 4-1 in that situation this year, so as long as Pop plays his big three the Spurs should be the pick here. Confidence Meter: 8
